A '58 for sure...Amazon Green was a one year only colour.

And notice where the mirror is mounted, normally where antennae usually go. Since there always seems to be discussions about mirrors and placement.

My one prior owner 58 coupe had the mirror same spot. I thought they used Amazon Green on 59 ass well. Back in the 90's Bill Derickx had a 59 convertible that color?

1960 Ghia, summer 1973.

My first car, though my dad decided we should not revive it due to the rot. Located at the back of the parking lot at a restaurant in NW CT which we went to a few times each year, the owners were going to have it towed to the local junkyard. They offered it to us for free. I remember it had a dealer sticker from Pioneer VW in Watertown CT. Dad invited 3 of his friends/colleagues from work for the day, and Gunther (right) towed the Ghia on back roads back to our house with his '72 or '73 Fastback. Joe was "driving" the Ghia, which had no brakes so that he used the handbrake to slow down. Helmut (left) trailed us in his blue Squareback. I sat in the Ghia next to Joe; that's me jumping over the tow rope. It had a 40hp stale air engine which we got running. Dad and I took the engine out, pulled the heads, had the valves replaced and lapped in; and it turned out to be a decent running engine. When we used the stock jack to jack up the side of the Ghia, the body collapsed due to the rot! I bought an engine-less '60 Beetle with lawn mowing money, which was very solid. Used the 40hp engine for that, and ended up getting it running and driving. In '75, after taking out many parts from the Ghia, we towed it to the junkyard after all. Still have the lic. plate hanging in the garage.

I love this pic. Everything looks fun about it. I love the two beautiful cars in front. And I do love the ghia, but I am thinking it was treated unkindly for a dozen years to get it to look that way. 😁

It’s not the first time I’ve seen those painted hub caps on a Ghia, seems like they were more popular in Europe.

They might have been charting the history of the convertible from 1957 but the picture is of the facelift version >Aug '59 so it's a retrospective press release from the '60s.

I was wondering why the nostrils had the later model and not the early Low Light 3 fin version. Thanks.
