What a great shot.
I especially like how the right side of the car seems to be lower than the left. Wonder how heavy the St. Bernard is?
Judging from the dealer plates and the other cars around it, this 70 or 71 Ghia is likely very young, possibly brand new ? at the time of this picture.
It illustrates how low a factory installed convertible top can be lowered. Showing that it does not obstruct the rear view mirror.
Also interesting is that the side mirrors have been installed in the horizontal position, which is not always the case.
I see many that the mirrors are installed pointing up at an angle. This looks much nicer in my opinion. _________________ Marc

Stumbled across this photo the other day. Not sure if it’s been on here before? Hope it’s ok on this thread.
Very cool picture.

With flat hubcaps, reverse light, headrests, big-slot trim rings, and wide rear track? '68 or '69 though I don't see the rear side round reflectors... |

Looks like my neighborhood when growing up, VW Ghia or Bug, Mercury Cougar(?), kids riding Schwinn Banana seat bicycles, off to 7-11 after collecting bottles or scamming mom or grandpa out of a buck to go buy Slurpee's!!! AAHH the memories!

Does the mirror on the passenger side sun visor help date the car? _________________ Marc

Good spotting, Marc. I think so; I checked the Ghia owner's manuals in the Technical section. The visor mirror is first specifically shown in the '68 manual; it's not in the '67. However, I checked a few photos of '67 Ghia Cabrios in the Gallery, and some have that mirror. A good friend has a mostly original '67 Ghia Cabrio; I'll ask him if his has it. I also checked my Ghia dealer parts manual. The mirrored visor is listed with the "141..." P/N (LHD Cabrio) as of 12/68... |

The good old payphone. For a dime you could call the person for the address you couldn't find or what it was you forgot when you got to the store.
Making a long distance call the operator would say "Deposit .35 cents please". You drop a nickel you'd hear a ping. A dime, two pings. A quarter, a loud dong.
That's how operator knew what you paid before connecting you.
"Those days" were happier than today's "Social days". _________________
