One of the CV joints on my driver's side (I'm pretty sure) is knock, knock, knocking to be serviced. Here are your clues:

-Knocks loudest on left turns when the left rear suspension is "unloaded"
-Knocks loudest when just starting off in the mornings, temperature related?
-Almost no perceptible knock on straight ahead acceleration or deceleration
-Both inner and outer CVs were replaced about 18 months ago, but I used the little tubes of grease that came with the kits from VC. Subsequently learned that I should have purchased a better quality lube.
-Both CVs on that side are Lobro branded.

I'll pull the half shaft later today, likely will clean, inspect, and repack both joints, just curious which one you guys think it is, the inner or the outer.

I'll be really bummed if I'm "hearing" it wrong and it's coming from one of my passenger side CVs.

So, experts, what's your guess??

The CV joints should be cleaned, inspected, replaced if necessary and repacked as a set. All four cover the same distance. Rotating their direction at this time can extend their life. Hope you guess right.

well if its time for new ones don't go for the " brand new" bargain ones from GoWesty

We had to take them back out and add 1lb of grease to them

if I had to do it over I would just buy the Lobro's again.

I will say this, I have been using the Van-Cafe long needle grease kit, the axle shop wanted to know how I milked my old ones as long as I did...the kit works!

AZ Autohaus has Lobro GKN (sp) CV's on sale for $58 + free shipping in case anyone is interested. I have a rear outer that needs to be serviced so I checked their site earlier today.

There is a Syncro thread going on about Empi fronts right now.
Junk.
Lobro at the least, custom when you are ready for reliability and strength.

And the winner is.... the driver's side outer. Cause? Another damn boot failure. I'm checking into the Rockford CV boots, I'm tired of removing/repacking/reinstalling my CVs every 5k miles because of the crap boots failing.
