O well lets wait on east german syncrodoka no milk please |
I am way to brown to be mistaken for any type of european.
The peugeot parts that have been linked to sprayed over the sides and up half of the roof- not a improvement in my opinion.
It sounds like you are really interesed in this and have invested some time. Why don't you take over and I will play with my $7 parts that you say won't work? Bye bye. |

Older sprinter vans, 06 and older I think, have 3 way nozzles. I checked out dealerships here last fall, and they wanted $70 for replacements if I recall correctly. I'm interested to hear how the Smarties work. |

Sorry I should not say they wont work until we hear from you
Just it looks like the previous rumor mill was talking about the the 1st gen 4-2 pre 2007 that was not available in the us ..
It would be GREAT to hear the $7 I assume later model work that be way better than the olders one that are still kinda hard to track down _________________ 89 Westy with TDI AHU 1.9 manual lots of mods

The Smart Car assembly with 2 nozzles and the tubing can be bought. I just saw that today in the computer along with the pictures of it. I can get it in the US even if it is European. This issue is the cost. It retails for 60 Euro. What the wholesale in US cost is could not be quoted as it was too late.
Tomorrow I will inquire with the above single part number. I'll find out about the if we can break the part out or down further as we do not need the tubing attached.
If available in the US, it just takes a few days. If not, then a package of them would be put in with other orders from Europe or where ever the source country is.
Now we wait..... _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

This is the part that I am expecting to get-
It attaches to the cowel, but I was unable to inspect how. Hopefully I will get a call to pick them up soon so that I can figure out if it is a pass or fail project.
It might be too low but we shall see... |

Those are from the post 2007 4-2's, my neighbor has one & i just went & looked. Hopefully they have the same barb setup, those are better than mine, same 3 squirter action but nicer low profile.
Since my above post I went shopping with the lady & wouldn't you know it right beside us is a 2002ish 4-2 & YES THEY ARE THE SAME AS MY PICTURES ABOVE. Not close, not kinda similar, the exact same. Smart car only has one for the whole windshield. So there you go, the entire 3 squirter debate is solved unless you live in the USA (insert Melvin laugh ...................here.) They still need some filing but thats a 2minute job. If you can source them i'd recommend just doing your drivers side, 4 jets is plenty for coverage IMHO.
**EDIT Smart car part number is as tclark reported, 0008830V002000000 $28CAD at the local dealer. |

Thanks for the update BlackDogVan- very good info. |

000 88 30 V 002 - 000000 is a good number in the US.
This part may or may not be in the USA at this time.
$20 each
(no discounts on Smart parts I am told. What a crock.) _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

My nozzles are still on order and they said that maybe at the end of the week.
I tried with the '07 and earlier part # and they said that they can see the part number but Smart won't let them order parts from a non-federalized car. If someone has a source other than Canada they might try to order one. Good luck. |

The parts guy assured me it was a good for the US number. Remember it DOES fit a North America model. But, if they have to come from Canada, so be it, I deal with that too. We'll see. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Yes, I understand the "North America" concept as a owner of a North American truck that was never available in the U.S.
I don't know why they wouldn't be able to order them though. |

Canada got the first generation Smart car in late 2004 with the taller nozzle like BlackDogVan reported.
US got the 2nd generation Smart car in '08 when they transition to the flatter windshield squirter.
If you can get .CA parts here in the US. let us know. |

The base that pushes into the sheetmetal is round not X shaped like the stock squirter so it will need to be modified.
I am still not positive that this is a option that will work. It looks like the shorter profile might not clear the lip of the windshield seal. I need to modify one and install it to see if it is a improvement or a misfire. If the rain isn't too bad this weekend I will probably get one in the truck for a test.
If r39o can get the .CA parts it could be a solid backup plan. |

I await a response about the other part. Guess I need to call in the morning again. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!
