I am with you, I want one of these. |
I'd like one of these for the driver's side if someone wants to split a pair. |

After some effort, here is what I found:
This part should cost about US $20.
It would be some time to get them via normal channels.
Some US dealers could decode the part and others were simply clueless or didn't want to bother.
We don't have very good (simple) ways of dealing with Smart here in the US.
It is not as transparent as dealing with Mercedes, sorry to find out.
Next time we go to Germany we'll get some. In fact, I have to find a camera for a cousin coming from Muenchen in a month, perhaps he can bring me some.
In the mean time, ordering modified ones from England may be the a saner way of dealing with this part. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

I swung by the local Smart dealer today to check prices here. The nozzles are $30 each, they have some in stock. Shipping into the States would be about $10 from here to pretty much all of the States, and includes insurance (though in almost 10 years shipping stuff, my wife and I just got our first destroyed package label back last week from the USPS).
If any one wants, I can do, the dealer isn't too far from work anyways. |

Hey v.dubber, put an ad in the classifieds here on the Samba. It would make it easier for the ordering process if its not too much trouble for you. _________________ 1978 Sage Green P22 Westfalia

Going to Europe (Germany) at the end of the month. Will get some for myself there. Then I will know what it really all involves getting those things. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Wont customs think it odd, pulling a massive suitcase along full of them? |

Those little plastic thingies are not concern. It is the all the gears, chrome things, pump diaphragms, and what not they sort of look funny at. Been doing this for decades, not an issue. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

So is the price in the Samba ad for one or two plastic thingees? It's late in my work day and I'm easily confused. _________________ 1985 Westy, 1.9L automatic (Daisy)

That was mentioned before, but how does one get to the tubing without removing the dash? _________________ '85 Westy |

You don't.
PLUS the hole is a little funny cross. You care to file that or make a punch?
The extra washers seem to get lots of fluid up where you need it and fast.
I like it and will try it.
We'll see in about a month or so or more..... _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

I'll bite. I added a set of these after seeing the pictures, figured what could it hurt. It's a simple installation, just follow tclark's instructions. It's a bugger to aim all six jets, but afterwards I am amazed at how much cleaner hits the window!
Careful installing them because its easy to pull the line too tight and crimp it. I did the passenger side first (luckily) and it worked great. But after both were installed the passenger side had weak output. Finally figured I'd probably kinked the line somehow. Took out the glove box and was just able to reach up and ease the tension off the line and they now work flawlessly. I'd recommend doing the passenger side first due to this possibility, because there really is no way to reach the driver side line should it become kinked.
Also used a bit of silicone around the nozzles where they meet the body to prevent water from seeping in. Install time - about 10 minutes. Aiming time - about 20 minutes and a half gallon of washer fluid! _________________ '85 Westy |

got mine too, thanks v.dubber, just haven't had time to play with them, one thing I notice, thay are bigger than stock and don't come with the little piece of rubber or plastic (grommet?) that holds the nozzle against the metal, wondering how we will attach them _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

they just clip in, same as the originals, and as said previously a little smear of silicont will seal them. Job done, 10 minutes. |
