As far as I know the 1500 option began in 1963 with the combination 1-ton/1500cc package.
A lot of late US-delivered '63 Deluxes have this options. |
Seems like I read somewhere around here that most US-spec '63s were 1500s. My Feb '63 Kombi is M-coded for 1500. _________________

Although used in type 3, the 1500 hadn't been delivered in '62 busses, is my opinion. Someone may have added it later and put the 1500 script on to show it's bigness. 1500 was a status symbol back then and a lot of busses were stolen just for the engine. If you wipe off some of your gray primer there should be a ghost of the script in the nonfaded part of the og paint: possibly Indio? Here's the 100 mm on center script:

Okay I went over and measured the holes and they are exactly seven inches apart center to center. Not even a 1/16th more or less and the holes are 1/8th in diameter and are pulled out slightly as whatever was on there put up fight coming off! _________________ April 3rd 62 standard mgr/pw

Hey Sventinker, Don't know if this will help you. I have an extra
Volkswagen script in my desk here at my computer (how neat is that?)
so I measured the spikes, tits, or whatever you call the nubs that stick out in the back that go into the bus. Mines a '63 15 window like in the photo above.
Looking at the script the first spike or tang at the bottom of the letter V and running to the next one at the top of the letter K measures
3 3/8 in. From that one to the next at the top of letter A its 3 3/8 in.
From that one at the top middle of letter A to one at the bottom end of letter N is 3 1/8. Altogether a bit over ten inch's.
Will that help? By the way never had a dealer badge on my bus. But I've talked with folks about that 1500 badge. My understanding is it
was never on U.S. buses. I've heard it was on buses in Mexico and south America, Brazil, maybe? |

Okay quick question/quick topic...
No luck with search
Did the script on the rear of buses change over the years? Any one have pics? I am asking because I haven't found one at shows that anyone would confirm would fit my 62 |
From what I have seen on Baywindows, their emblems are different in that the "K" has a gap between the two of tops on the "K", and My 66' Westy has no space or gap between the tops of its "K". I am unsure if this difference is the same on all splits earlier than my Westy, but my 65' Standard has the same non-gapped "K" on its emblem. And so did the 66' Deluxe that I recently cut up.
I have pulled many emblems from junk-yard Baywindows and only noticed this difference a few years ago; the last one that I have left is from a 71'... and it has the gap in it.
I have no definitive proof of this difference, and no pictures either. Just commentary on what I've noticed over the years; if I this is inaccurate please correct me. I'm sure I will be if not. _________________

What "k" what emblem are you two talking about and when I asked if they changed over the years I meant for split windows not bays. I was trying to figure out if the "volkswagen" script changed and found out here my bus did not have a "volkswagen" script _________________ April 3rd 62 standard mgr/pw

Yea... I can understand. I've been looking at "Quality Resto's" closely for years at shows; I've seen gapped "K's" on "all OG" rat-rides/restorations and just kept the detail to myself, quietly smirking on the inside.
I suppose that my observation is accurate, hatzetguy hasn't been in here rubbin literature and past threads all up in my face discounting this difference, and SuperSamba hasn't locked the thread due to previously posted discussion on the topic either .
I wonder how many people nervously went to look at their rear emblems after reading this thread.
So, who has a Fat-Chick Tramp-Stamp on their early T2? _________________

The new around town quality repro scripts seem to be correct as far as the "K" is concerned (I still have my og also).
Here is the link to the above where I purchased a repro.

I can take a comparison pic later of the two over/under. _________________

Here is a direct comparison. The new is below. While the "K" is pretty close there are a few differences in some of the other letters. The recurring issue is a minute size difference in some. In person the worst seems to be the lower portion of the "G".

At least this seller appears to know the difference between "New" and NOS |
This is one of my biggest peeves of the classifieds, as well as the general seller confusion between OG and NOS. _________________

From the pictures, the bottom one seems kinda rounder on the edges than the top one w/the keepers... the "O" stands out as different and so does the "N".
But bandwidth tends to do that. _________________

You are seeing it correctly (I'm not sure if it has to do with the amount of chrome/coating on it?). It is not a bad reproduction, and you couldn't pick it out driving down the road, but not an exact repro. I would say it is worth the money if you can't find one. _________________

Looks to me like somebody mounted a license plate to that deck lid at one time. Plate holes are same distance apart. |
