|

Ready for another summer, well almost.
The battery was on a trickle charger all winter as it was last winter.
measured 12 volts, when I got the van and installed it, it was dead.
2 years old
Napa.
maybe it's time for a new charger.
I hope they pro-rate.
My rebuilt started right up once it was jumped.
there was some oil drips on the cardboard and some coolant.
the oil is from the pump.
Hopefully the coolant was from a loose clamp.
Soon I will install my Tencent oil cooler, change the oil, order and install the new wheels, on and on...
oh yeah, and enjoy it. _________________ 1987 Westy Auto Bostig 2.0 Ztec |

A stored battery can read 12 v but have little cranking amps left. Better to store battery in a warm place over winter. And they should pro-rate. |

Thanks, I'm going to take it back at lunch and find out more...
It was in my basement on a shelf attached to a trickle charger at about 65-70deg all winter.
I wonder if it went dry. _________________ 1987 Westy Auto Bostig 2.0 Ztec |

I stopped in at NAPA durring my lunch and they tested it. 0 volts.
So they wanted to charge it and load test it.
I couldn't wait, and can't go after work so they said they would meet me in the parking lot at work with the battery in question (not likely) or a replacement.
That's service. _________________ 1987 Westy Auto Bostig 2.0 Ztec |

I'd like to suggest that it is probably better not to leave a trickle charger on that long as I believe that can work against you. Better to store it fully charged and then check it and recharge fully if needed. Batteries don't do well otherwise. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

True enough. I've overcharged before and it simply begins to boil out the fluids and destroy the volts/amps. For those rigs stored in winter, I simply disconnect the batteries and store them in a warm location. They've always started the rig in the spring, sometimes with a little struggle, but then just drive it out on the highway for about 30 minutes at above 40 mph and you're back in business. |

Thanks, no trickle charger this winter.
New battery, delivered to work parking lot, pro rated, 22 bucks.
Not bad.

what kind of trickle charger? This is what you want
http://www.batteryminders.com/batterycharger/catal...16134.html
It will condition and maintain your batter perfectly over the winter. I used a normal trickle charger one winter and it totally overcharged and killed the battery. _________________ Joe
