Looks like a 1954-55 hood. A earlier hood would have 3-bolts on the hinges

Glenn is right!
This is a late '53 to the end of '54 hood.

So when did the triangle reinforcing disappear under the 4 tab. For some reason I'm thinking it was in '54.

That is a Standard hood - no holes for trim or emblem.

The end of '54 (12-54).

You got one of the last ones. as you know VW didn't waste anything. They use all the leftover metal till it was gone.

I think it is hard to cite a "going rate" on early oval and split hoods as you just don't ever see them for sale these days. If I had an early oval and needed a hood,a nd that one is as nice as it looks, It'd probably drop anywhere between $200 and $500 or so. Beyond that, I might keep looking.

Just my opinion.....

I have been reading all the threads I can find on these hoods and it is all starting to run together. Thought it would be easier to just post pics and see if anyone can help me date this hood.

Any pics of the area above the hood handle? Does it have the 2 small slots to mount a hood creast?

hey now, it's just the first date. my car is looking for a long term relationship, and isn't going to go all out right away based on a few internet pics. my car is interested for sure, but would like to proceed slowly right now.
