I think you're right about the boat top. I've seen that picture before. The back extension has a sink and porta potty in it. And a little rear door for access. |

Yeah HeftySmurf I cant wait to get the top for my van. We just had the second Blizzard to pass through the area in less than three days. My van looks like the Hightop has already been installed. I'll post that picture tomorrow.

I have been asked to track down foam backed material. I will start but perhaps some of you know a source. If you do, could you post it here. Not too many boat builders around here anymore but I have some ideas from other sources. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

too bad you couldn't send that snow to the Olympics. Here in the Toronto area we've had very little to no snow. I heard that our army is available if you need them there in continental US. (its a joke if you haven't heard the story just ask --it's still talked about) _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

Sweeet.
I tore out the headliner of my parts van today. Look like I will need to find a few parts from a westy to make theceiling flat in the rear portion of the van
Going to keep the headliner in the front though.
Zacamil are you putting west interior in or doing something elses? |
Are you gonna but a bed up there? |

Probably a bed up top something like this
Lots of room to sleep at night, lots of room to store stuff during the day. _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

HeftySmurf I have a Weekender interior in my van right now and have been pretty happy with it. Lots of room.
J Charlton has been thinking about a removable kitchen unit. I think that is a great idea. Since the jump seat attachment point is already there in my van I was thinking of disassembling the passenger side jump seat and using its frame to construct something with a stove/oven and maybe some storage.
blakeck2 I am definitely putting a bed up top. |

why not build something that ataches in the same way but keep the seat so you either have a 7 pasenger or 6 pasenger camper? |
That is exactly the way I am going to design it. You would be able to leave it at home and put the jump seat in, or remove the jump seat, fasten the unit in then either use it inside the van or remove it at a campsite to use it outside. _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

A couple of threads that nicely lead into the discussion of High Tops :
"Cut away westy (high top)" and
"Dining, Drinking, and Stealth Overnighting?" _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

I would mention that closing curtains is also a red flag. Again, another vote for a hightop option. You can leave all the lower curtains open, hop up top and ignore anyone who comes knocking. For a little while I've been planning on making some total blackout window "curtains" from 1/16" thick smooth black plastic. I will cut them to fit snugly to the window seals. When viewed from the exterior, it makes the windows appear to have limo tint that cannot be seen through. Even a flashlight up close and you just see a reflection. Coupled with a black curtain hung behind the front seats and it would be rare indeed that any law enforcement would do anything other than leave you alone. |
