Did you guys see the new episode tonight? Titled "White Castle on the Farm"?
I noticed on this episode that when they do the valuations at the end of a trip, they are putting "Sold for $x", instead of simply "Valued $x". As long as they're not bullshitting, it's a much more believable and accurate figure.
Also, did you see the guy whose door they knocked on and he says very sternly "YOU'RE DISTURBING ME" and throws their flier back in their faces? Classic.
Both of these topics have been addressed previously in this thread. Are we sure they're not reading this and using our feedback to shape the show??? _________________ 1967 13 window walkthru bus

Only some of the items read "sold for". Some still read "valued at" or some such. Maybe they had actually sold some of the stuff by the time the tape was in the editing room.
This episode did appear to show a more raw side of the business. I don't think this thread is affecting the show, though. That stuff was filmed, edited and produced many months ago. _________________ nothing |

I think it is actually sold values. Some of the prices they are posting "sold for" appear on the low side. I have seen some of these items sell for a lot more money on ebay, auctions, antique sales and swap meets. The metal signs are priced really low for what I have seen them sell at. When I say "sell" I do not mean asking price, but actual selling price. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Yes, you are correct on both fronts. I just thought it was weird that they were addressing some of the things we've been saying. _________________ 1967 13 window walkthru bus

All of us should be mindful of the difference between fantasy and reality, especially when it comes to "reality" shows. Certainly, the Repo show appears to be the equivalent a tv wrestling . . .staged and fake. This American Pickers seems too much concerned with an intersting tv show than they are with "reality':too much like a pat hand most of the time. |

Call me gullible, but I don't think they knew ahead of time what the saddle was worth. The man they bought it from could have taken it to have it appraised if he wanted to. Then he would have had to market it, and sell it. Some people just don't want to bother with that, or have not thought to try it. Just because the profit was substantial on that buy, doesn't mean it always works that way. _________________ nothing |

I like the show, and obviously profit is their main goal, but when a guy in his 80's is telling you stories and doesn't know value at all of the stuff he is discussing and shoots you what you know to be a ridiculus low offer, why "haggle" him for 5 more dollars off. You have to pick your scores carefully but respect what it took for those things your scoring to still be out there. _________________

Time to rename the show if it goes to second season:
AMERICAN FLIPPERS
One of the guys even called himself a flipper!!
"we dont want a museum, we need to flip it for quick sale"
I dont know how he really is but the skinny guy seems like a jerk. If he came to my door he would "disturb me" too. The short guy seems nicer and doesn't come off as a weasel like the pushy jerk. |

Don't feel too sorry for that old guy, or a lot of old people, they are making more than you ever will at retirement ($2k-$5k/month), plus all the free medical (medicare), and no, they did not earn that $150k open heart last week, like they will tell you they did. They did not make that much in their life time. Plus, it was just shit he had laying around and did not bother to learn what the value was worth.....fuck that old guy! _________________ ---

I kind of thought that they were taking advantage of people just because they really didn't know what their stuff was worth. If you saw the beginning of the show, they target the people that don't keep up with the times, no internet, old cars, ratty looking houses and such...you catch my drift, I didn't think that was very nice. I also get a kick out of when they ask what the owner of something thinks it's worth and they laugh at them KNOWING that it's worth WAY more then that..... |
Those people know what they have. Notice the one guy still have an auction number card in is bibs pocket.
I see those old people at farm auctions and estate auctions all the time buying stuff.
I have to bid against them for the VW parts. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
