Sorry for a strange question but I figure you guys would know. I've never seen a hurbie movie, was there other beetles that raced against him? Did he have a arch rival? I'm kind of hooked on being the oposite to things. So it would be fun to paint mine up like the rival just to have people scratching their heads |

sorry, herbie . My family was into cutting beetles in half and making trikes. So never had a intrest in Herbie. If you se one with seats on the back facing backwards my family probably built it because our mold is the only one I've seen that does that. Pisses my dad off I haven't cut mine in half yet . _________________ Fatchicks: Daily drivers, donor cars, collectibles. What can't they do? |

So does your replica have the super 90 engine? If so how was the swap? |

no, but I wish I did. I cannot afford the porsche. What I did was modify the 40hp to resemble a porsche engine. |

I will have a Herbie one day, whether a darn good replica, or an original. Mark my words!!
I have a customer who made his '74 into a Herbie, but I dunno, doesn't look right unless it's a '63. _________________ '60 Canadian Standard, '64 Bug, another '64 Bug, '66 Bug, '69 Sunroof Bug, '69 GT3 Bug, '71 Super, '72 Super, '73 Canadian Custom, '74 Love Bug, '83 Mexi Bug, '85 Cabrio, '94 Mexi Bug, '99 New Beetle, '02 New Beetle Turbo S, '03 New Beetle VR6. Here is one in my location. I met the owner and chatted a little. And of course recorded the brush with greatness. |

Why does the rear window of this one appear to be misshapen? It looks that way in the other pics too. |

Funny you should ask. That damage was incurred during the production of The Love Bug. My car was set up to be driven via remote control, and in one of the scenes, Herbie had to make a sharp turn to avoid going over a cliff. What the crew didn't notice was the power lines running over where they were filming. So when it came time to do the shoot, the car didn't respond and went over the cliff. The repair is the same quick repair that Disney did on set, including a lexan rear window. For years I had not known how the damage happened or if it even happened on set. But it was thanks to a connection with one of the special effects guys on the movie that I was able to confirm the story.
You don't really notice it from the passenger side, but the drivers side is where the majority of the damage is. Much of the back corner is filler. Even the seam just under the drip rail on the roof was filled, yet the passenger side was left alone. The front passenger side of the roof is a little out of shape, but no where near as drastic as the rear. But When you drive the car it lets you know just how out of shape it is as the doors don't seal up properly with the body and if you hit a bump just right the drivers door will unlatch a little. Both doors used to unlatch, but it took lots of patience to get the strikers angled just right. The roll over also made the decklid unable to latch to the apron. Even after a lot of adjustment, so I've grown used to it rattling as I drive. _________________ Yeah I like Herbie AND New Beetles. Got a problem with it? Tough.

Just like Disney! Fake convertible tops different trunks, front suspension. Antenna was almost in the middle in Herbie goes bananas . They didn't care. Lol.
That and the average person would not notice. People have told us our 65 without a convertible is identical. Ha. Anyhow that car looks good in the photo. Just my opinion though. _________________ Project 66 Daily Driver http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538786&highlight=
