Hey everybody,
Has anyone successfully overbored the pin end of a 40 horse rod for a 22mm pin? Is there a source for an aftermarket rod at the stock length? The shortest I can find new is 5.325 I believe. Any help or experience with this would be appreciated!
Carl

AA is making some cool chromoly 36hp rods with either 20mm or 22mm wrist pin diameters:

So maybe at some point they will do this for the 40hp as well.

I have reworked the 40 horse rods for 22mm pins several times. It works well... for moderate rpm combinations.
I actually like them for mini-stroker engines using A pistons. Keeps the engine narrow. Although, it requires a bit more machine work than the typical tight-wad engine "builder" is willing to do. (The rod work and shortening the cylinders)
I really like the torque increase at low rpms. It makes the engine feel as though it were a much larger displacement!
I recommend using ARP rod bolts (like the Formula Vee racers use).
My current 1800 powers my split Bus-and-trailer down the highway at 65 mph with no problem.
Give it a try!

Which ARP bolts? Do you have a part number?
