I've suddenly got a rubbing noise in the rear of my Thing. Symptoms are:

Doesn't happen when cold,

Thought it might be brakes. Raised car and spun all four wheels. No noise.

Once it's warmed up rubbing noise starts.

Rubbing noise is off and on and increases with speed.

All gears.

Raised rear end after warmup, spun wheels, no noise.

I did remove both axels about 100 miles ago to replace boots. One side had bearings so worn that complete assembly was replaced with Thing Shop product. Other side was cleaned and lubed.

Any ideas are very welcome.

Engine speed or road speed?

Sounds like the issue comes when the rear suspension is loaded, axles are at their driving angle.... I'd guess this has to do with the bits you worked on/replaced.... Maybe something didn't make it back in the correct place?
Did you have any, extra parts after the job?? Lol Wink

I'm at a 1:1 ratio on parts removed vs. parts put back in. Shocked

My master mechanic friend came by. After testing we determined it only happens when weight is on the suspension. Further testing by coasting down a slight incline indicates it's one of the two bearings inboard of the brakes.

I'll order both bearings and swap them out.
