I finally got the time to get the ball rolling on the #kidneybeetle build thread.

This project has been an idea that I have talked about for a number of years. I just never really had a purpose to drive me to get it started. Well that changed in September of 2018. My Dad is definitely the reason I am into cars. He was always buying selling and trading vehicles when I was a kid. Long story short he was diagnosed with kidney failure around 2014. It was that along with other issues led to him passing away in 2018 at the age of 53. My Dad received helped from the Kidney Foundation during his last few years and was very appreciative of their help. He was always saying that we should give our clothing/whatever donations to them. I would like to give back to them in his name with this build.

This project idea and vision was heavily inspired by another group that is somewhat local to me, Bugs4Christ. If you haven't seen their builds you need to check them out! They have built full cars in very short periods of time and always with the goal of helping others in the process. It just happened that me and a good friend were talking about these types of builds and he offered me a pretty decent 1974 super beetle to build. Thanks again Bob! Its a pretty complete car minus engine and transaxle.

The plan is to work on the car as I have time during the week. Then once a month or as money/parts allow I will plan a work day so others can come help if they want. Once we feel the car has been built to reach the look we want we will sell the car off and donate the proceeds to the Kidney Foundation.

Definitely want to go german look since it is a super beetle......lowered on some euro wheels with a fresh engine to go with the rebuilt transaxle that was donated from Scumbugs. Thanks again Rick!

Right now we are nearing $600 in sales and donations plus parts donations as well. We have received a core engine from the Aircooled Therepy group on facebook as well as engine sheet metal and seals from local Vw enthusiast.

A set of BMW wheels and two rear tires have been donated as well as a pair of flared front fenders if needed.

We received a new clutch kit from Bug-Eyed Vw Parts

I have also purchased the following parts to be used and installed during the first work day coming up soon. Front MK1 Rabbit coilovers and lighter springs, Mk4 side marker lights, dual pattern porsche and chevy front disc brake kit and rear drums, wobble lug bolts

I didnt have a loose 2 bolt strut to compare the coilover to.....

Hope to have some actual build pics in a couple of weeks if the weather will cooperate.

Bugeyed VW Parts came through with some more parts donations.

Got the tires mounted up on the BMW wheels.

Cleaned and painted a few parts before the workday.

Finally had a nice day when I was free and got the car washed and much more clean.

Had a group of friends come over Saturday and we made some progress! We got the coilovers installed, disc brakes on, front and rear lowered, side marker lights cut in and installed, removed the original turn signals, new LED headlights, installed the rebuilt transaxle, new rear drums, finished the pop out window install, removed the stock trim and mounted some 62 and earlier stainless trim.
