This afternoon, i poured a pint of Seafoam into the gas tank and headed down to the vehicle inspection station. It failed, as I half-expected it would, but my high-RPM emissions were actually well below the limit--around 140 ppm (220 is the cut-off). However, my emissions when idling were several times the limit (1050 ppm). My idle is set a little high (around 1000), but I don't think this would explain such a dramatic difference. Anyone have any tips/tweaks? I'd very much appreciate your insights.
Please no "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION" responses. That's what I've been doing for the last hour. If you know of a relevant thread, please link me to it.

I should point out that those levels were for hydrocarbons. My CO output is fine--low, in fact (.18% at high RPMs, .24% at idle).
I notice now that my air (O2) readings are 3.4% at high RPM, 5.4% at idle. I have no idea what these should be, but it seems that they should be about the same whether idling or revving. I did replace the O2 sensor, but maybe I need to replace it again.
I was trying to pass inspection before I leave for Colorado tomorrow. Guess I'll have to take the 4Runner

What was you NO doing?
Frequently, all you need is a fresh cat. But, it could be lots of things.
Every few years I need a fresh cat. But, the cat situation might be harder now. I do not know. Mine is held in with stainless fasteners and anti seize. Comes out in minutes instead of the hours it used to fighting rusty fasteners. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!
