|
|
So the story goes like this, a gentleman buys a panel bus back in 1963, with the intention of adding windows and seats to it, (he goes as far as buying the seats and windows and interior panels) brings this bus home, parks it in his driveway and a few days later finds his young son stuffing sand and eggshells and crap down the gas tank neck, he pulls the motor and gas tank out, cleans the tank, puts the tank back in, but never got around to putting the motor back in the bus, because of this he never cut the windows in and never added the seats to it, the bus just sat in his garage since 1964 with nothing being done to it.
Fastforward to 2010, Glenn R and Jim Lynch find this bus, they buy some parts from the gentleman and pass on the bus, a few weeks later Keith from Tijuana Kustoms called me and tells me about this bus, we went and looked at it, I made an offer, the gentleman who is now 78 years old accepts my offer, and a week later the bus is at my place.
I'd like to thank Keith for putting me onto it with nothing at stake for him and for taking a ride with me in my white bus the first time we went to see it and not freaking out when he saw me adding brake fluid to the reservour so we would have brakes for the ride back, and also for not complaining when we ran out of gas on the way back, Also wanna thank Don for being a stand up guy and waiting around while I was closing the deal with the old man with his flat bed running outside and for lending his services once again.
this is where it rested all these years.
This is 01-28-10, the day we picked it up.

is the son still alive?
Very cool bus! Were the seats that he was going to add bus seats? Were they included with the sale? Either way, score! _________________ It's not how wide your hatch is, it's what you do with it.

That's pretty rad, id roll it. I'm surprised at the amount of rust it has for only being on the road for 5 years and then in a garage for the last 45. _________________ (O\U|U/O) Top Vw (o\UU/o) |

the son's still alive, I shook his hand and thanked him for unknowingly saving this bus from eminent destruction so many years ago. The seats had already been sold.

I felt the same way when I saw it, but once you get up close you realize that is all outer rockers only, everything else is rock solid. they did treat this bus like a work horse though, bc it's got some pretty descent size dents inside. |

Love it! The backwards nose lettering looks like an afterthought compared to the nicely painted logos. Are they stickers? I just googled "Coram Rug Works" and found this link (it appears in the list of businesses at the bottom):
http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us/history/coram/alma.htm
Is the bus from Long Island, NY? _________________ drive it. break it. fix it. repeat.

Awesome score, that bus is sweet!!!! Nice I-gotta-new-bus smile!
But damn, the rust it got in 6 years. I'd be hosing out the rockers and doglegs and undercarriage and ever the overhead air vent. They salt the roads there in winter, eh? _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |
