Well I posted a pic in the today in bus hunting thread..but didnt want to clutter it up with a long post so heres the full story.
I got a call on Friday from a friend who had looked at a bus but couldnt buy it...he described it to me and I immediatly called the owner and sat up a time to see it that night. The garage was poorly lit but as soon as the door raised I knew I had to get it.
They were settleing the estate and wanted to sell it. I met with the original owners daughter and her husband I looked it over quickly in the cold and we went inside and she told me storys of how her family moved to Italy in Nov of 1960 ( he was in the airforce) They had originally bought a bug..but after her dad showed her mom a camper and she liked it he ordered one that day and went and picked this up in Germany. They spent the next 4 years traveling Europe as you can see by the travel stickers on the window. Also her mom documented ever trip with a journal and she supplied me with a copy of their first camping trip. What else is nice is that I found they had purchased 2 different tents to go with the camper but only used the smaller one. She has also been kind enough to loan me slides of them camping with the bus in various countries I will post pics once I scan them.
All of the orignal curtains are present and I found them folded in the rear cabinet kept in plastic. Also present are all of the cups, the mauser bowl, and I also was give 1 water jug and 2 smaller jugs. As well as at least 1 of tents and all of the poles that they had. I havent been able to open up the tent(s) to see exactly what I have or dont have. Also has a westy hitch too. I mentioned the folding chair to her and she said that she remembered it and would look for it as they clean out the rest of the house as well as a seperate property. Its been repainted 1 time..and it looks like they painted it coral rather than sealing wax...it still looks good to me reguardles...It also has an accessory cigar lighter and coco mat on the front floor. Also the original sisal mat is present on the rear floor. Hasnt been on the road in over 30 years and always garage kept.
I got the rack too!
Enough talk..check out the pics.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |
