Ideally from a 77, but any of the later modles 72-79 will do.
I have a dollar bet on this one. |

Here's the specs for a 76, no difference in payload for a 77 (Pritschenwagen is German for singlecab )

Nutzlast = payload = 1000kg (roughly 2200 lb). _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I think it's hilarious that 50-something horsepower engines have a higher payload than modern V8-powered trucks...but I don't see how it's possible. What makes these little engines able to haul so much?? _________________ Percy: '77 sage Westy, 2.0L FI (GD), 091 trans

Thay just say it can carry it thay didn't say how long it will take you to get there. As for 50 horse power there german horse's there diffrent then american horse's.

VW's not the only imported truck to make the big 3 look weak, this does the same with only 1300 cc's, drives better loaded too

My 1973 Datsun PL-521 was a 1600cc and numersous times I loaded it up with over a ton of stuff. It would not go very fast with all of that stuff in there, and stopping was indeed a challenge. It was truly a workhorse. |

My former 69 with 28 sections of privacy fence and the posts.
You shoud have seen the look on the guys face at Lowes when I told him I was putting it in a VW!
I had more issues with stoping than acceleration, you don't get in a hurry and plan your stops! |

Wonder what hill they were driving down when they measured the gas mileage? Hope the rest of their number are more realistic. |

I put a full sized chest filled with Matco tools in my bus because my friend's Ford truck couldn't carry that much. We actually had to get a forklift and drop it into the bus because no amount of guys could lift it! Needless to say, braking was...terrifying. _________________ 1972 Deluxe named Lucidity

Ya I have read that thread I have it book marked. I have 2 71's here for parts so I have what I need to do the job. I don't know if anybody found out if the bracket for the M/C is available but if I have to I will hack one off of these bus's. _________________ where its cold and snowy |

don't know if it will help you, but a 1,600 pound lift fit good in the back of my 70 single turd and made it 25 miles without a problem before i unloaded it. these are the pix after unloading it from FedEx, i did secure it properly for over the road travel
