Found this stamping on my type 1 case today as I was cleaning up my motor. It is stamped on both sides just beneath the cylinders. Can anyone tell me what this stamp is for? Thanks.

The 008 does not look stamped to me, it looks raised. Which would make the 008 part of the casting.

Picture is not the best. The numbers are definitely stamped.

Lay a .008 feeler gauge across the deck surface, run your finger across the feeler and the case, if it feels like a relatively smooth transition than I would say that the deck has been cut .008 . I have never seen a machine shop stamp the deck measurement on a case, but I see something new every day.
