Justin this is something along the lines I was referring to a while back when we where talking about making the "observation deck" for my DC with the integrated ladder.

Very cool setup Krusher!

no, everyone will gang up on the Internet and say how much they want one but then they will all disappear when it's check writing time.

Surely some legend could step in and handle the distribution?

There is a razor fine line between the forums and the classifieds.

This thread is marketing, not sales, therefore allowed. Wink

Cool idea with the integrated ladder, btw.

i thought the same thing when i looked at it.

i think this is partly because it lacks the curved pieces below the legs, and also because the sides look an inch or two higher above the 'floor' of the rack than on an original. if the curved rods were on the rack it would not visually hover above the roof quite as much.

awesome idea with the pull-out ladder.

I like how Keiths rack sits up higher than the rack that I own. When I'm standing on my rack it flexes just enough for the rack to touch the roof, I really don't like that my rack does that, so I would prefer to have a taller rack.

Why only one clamp per side rather than a clamp on each corner?

Nice rack. It like it being tall, too. For that flexing when walking or loading stuff on it or things poking towards the roof issue. I have a ragtop rack for my hardtop beetle for that clearance issue.

If anybody wants to buy a rack of any length just talk to Jerry at octo, http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=817681

To Clara: I bought 2 clamps over a year ago to do this project and only got round to it now, to have the ladder come off the back and no t hit the drip rail but also have a small hatch open and not hit the ladder the rack has to be as far back as possible, so I dont know if corner clamps would work at the rear. I climbed up the ladder on to the top with no clamps attached and the rack just stayed there, with 2 clamps I seem solid to me, you cant shake the rack as hard as you can and nothing moves it just moves the bus.

Side pic for people that asked, not the best picture, but the rack is no more than 2 inches higher than a regular rack.
