Thank you.

The ships were modest in the 1950s. It wasn't until the '60s, that it because a massive operation, with ships specially outfitted to carry cars.

Very cool, it seems like the bus is lifted on it's jack points.

Must have been quite an operation to load/unload a ship in such a way.

US spec sealed beams were installed at the dealer upon arrival, not sure why they didn't ship with the vehicle.

Probably because they were not an European item. So to get them to the factory, VW would have to purchase them in probably N. America and ship them to the factory to be installed. Then have to pay whatever import taxes to German gov. Take the time/$$ to install them at the factory and then ship them back in the VWs to N. America.

Was a lot less time, hassle, and $$ for the VW factory to just leave it to the dealerships to install new sealed beam bulbs shipped directly to the dealerships from probably VOA suppliers in the USA.

The 3/68 dated page of the "Damage Numbers" manual shows Westinghouse and General Electric as the suppliers of sealed beam units.

Also there were laws on the books that did not allow certain parts to be installed in foreign built autos that could be then imported new. Radios being one of those, so companies here in USA had a chance to sell their products. Maybe same sort of laws for headlight bulbs or just due to being USA certified road legal.

Wondering if these were Brazilian manufactured or Mexico?
The colors seem very limited, and upper hand corner left of busses there seem to be some typ of wagon? Sedan delivery? VW?
I see some scabs/dokas, and other known varieties.
Cheers Thomas

Pretty sure the K. Ghias in the image were only manufactured in Europe.

they made ghias in Brazil. I don't believed they made doublecabs though.

I don't know of any exports from Brazil other than the South African fleetlines, but my knowledge of Brazilian production is very limited. Does anyone here know about exports from Brazil?

I think that those cars are German production.

I originally posted that pic in the gallery. It was from a book about Hamburg Germany.

I realize the purpose of this thread is to show the mixture of different buses in a typical shipment; however, this photo shows
there wasn't always a mix, as this is one giant shipment of Beetles.

That is pretty cool, being able to identify your bus from a vintage photo.

Mount Seymore makes it rather obvious (far less ski runs on the peak back then).
