I have a somewhat beat up seat frame on my 70 westy. Broken springs mainly. But also have a potential donor frame from a 69. Are the frames interchageable or will only the springs be compatible to swap?

Seats will interchange 68-75. '76 was a split year as the seat tracks changed midway through the year.

Someone told me that the seat backs on years from 73 to 74 could be 1 inch taller on the 74's so can anyone else confirm this as I was told that the seat covers are not available for the taller ones? (tmI)

I just ordered seat foams from west coast metric and the only distinction was early (68-75) and (76-79). I have some 71 seats that I'm disassembling to repair the 74 headrest seats I'm re-foaming. All the parts seem the same to me.

Just to put it out there. I have kept a couple of bug seats to canibalize for any bus seat repair. They are very similar springs and can be shortened for a bus seat . Bug seat frames are real easy to come by.

Does anyone know if you can "restretch" the springs or should they just be replaced.
I have my seats out and stripped, ready to do the cushions and covers. Before I do the covers I would like to do something about the springs.

make sure all of the springs are there and unbroken. Every cross bar is needed and helps the seat retain shape. Rebuild your current seats and they'll pop back into shape. It make take 2 or three seat frames to come up with one good seat but you'll get there
