Don't get me started on the Dyson's. (yeah I fix vacuum's too)
In other news I got word that Husqvarna is releasing a brand new and very top of the line saw this season, all metal housing apparently, no more of this namby pamby plastic chansaw crap. It sounds neat. _________________ What was done to me created me. It is a basic principle of the universe.

I want something like this:
A diesel powered saw.
My dad has a really old Craftsman saw. Old enough to have points. That thing would not DIE! Finally when a tree fell on it did he retire it after trying to repair it. The chain would always slacken. Still runs to this day though.
He also has 3 Stihl saws. 2 identical medium sized ones, 18" bar; and a large one with a 20" bar. Not sure of the exact models. _________________ '71 Tin Top Westfalia

I just retired the only saw that I've ever owned. It was given to me by my father . . . a Montgomery Ward 2.1 cu. in. 16" bar saw (the same thing as a McCulloch 310) . It cut about 15 cords of wood every year for the last 27 years. She still runs, but was getting hard to start when hot.
I just picked up a Husky 435. We'll see how this one does. _________________ Suicide is man's way of telling God, "You can't fire me; I quit!" - Bill Maher |

The family that saws together stays together....well...in most cases, and "together" is debateable. |

I repair stihl products also. Please follow the directions on mixing the two cycle gas and should last a long time. All though It seems that stihl has gone done in quality the last few years. |

Ive got a 14" Echo and have abused it for 15 years. I've cut big trees, some I should have gotten a bigger saw for and never had an issue. It starts everytime. |

Well my Husqvarna just died last week
But after 13 years & 120 cords of wood, it lasted a while.
I Just picked up another Husqvarna 357, cuts really nice. _________________ Tom

I finally bought a Husky 450es (I think that's the model). Very happy so far. I was planning on getting a Dolmar, but the dealer would never call me back with any info after several attempts. The Husky dealer was great and very helpful with all of my newbie questions. Then, a week or so after I bought the saw, I get a handwritten thank you card in the mail. Let's just say I am pleased with my purchase decision. _________________ nothing |

The one and only comment posted at the bottom of that review hits the nail on the head. If you are actually needing a saw to cut fire wood and get some work done, none of those saws will fill the bill.
PM is an interesting read, but like many home owner/do it yourself periodicals, it falls short in getting to the real needs of people who earn a living with those tools. I can't imagine that any of those saws, except maybe for the Stihl or Husky, would cut five cords a year for ten years. That is what people need, and that is what they should review. They also left out Dolmar. _________________ nothing |

The typical homeowner/do it yourselfer would get by with most any of those.
Most of those type are like most VW owners.......cheap.
That's the typical PM reader.
That's what they reviewed...... _________________ Gary
