|
Aloha
It looks like our first overnight surf trip. I have not found an ideal place to store the front table.
I tried the cushion above the engine compartment one more thing to move. I tried behind the drivers seat one sharp turn and it slid out and nailed my wife's knee in the cargo area. As of now I have it wedged in between the cushions up top.
It seems the Germans would have had the ideal place to stow it?
Where do you keep yours?
Thank you

Behind the driver's seat, and there is no way it can slide out on a turn.
I store it with the top's long edge down on the seat pedestal, the top's surface against the back of the driver's seat. The table base points to the rear of van. The table pipe or stem is also between the driver's seat back and the end of the kitchen cabinet, located in it's normal table making spot, just inserted so that the stem goes behind the driver's seat. The stem prevents the table from moving, because the protruding base of the tabletop is caught between the mounting stem and the kitchen cabinet. You have to pull out the table base pipe and assemble the two pieces that way for transport, but it is no big deal. _________________ Sage

Ben the canadian came up with a good system to keep the table up against the ceiling over the rear bench/cargo area _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

We keep ours in the storage bay under the rear bench. Word of warning though, if it's off-kilter it can jam against the release mechanism. And I can tell you from personal experience, that's a PITA to open up when jammed.
I just make sure it's nice and snug off to the side of the mechanism and that it can't slide over. |

Unless it is secured securely (double something) it or anything up there can become a projectile. I keep mine on the passenger seat and sorta have a desk there. It works for me because I'm only me and I've got my seat! Mine was behind the driver's seat but right now I have my winter fluids, eqpt there.
Now that I can swivel the passengers seat I could most likely leave it set up as a side table when moored. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

We gave up using two tables a long time ago. I wonder how many others have made this choice? |

I keep mine in the garage. Put that table in, with the jump seat, no place to move. |

The bungee cord clips on the back of the cabinet and holds the table nice and snug. The arm rests on top holding the table top down with a bit of pressure. _________________ -- 1987 Westfalia automatic (Captain Vino) |

Aloha
That's how mine was until it came flying out. Bungee cord perfect solution.
Thank you

mounted to the pass seat pedestal, and stowed insitu behind it..
can also squeeze just between the seats from there. or stowed under the back bench.
Mom's 86 came with a mount similiar to Ben's overhead out back.. but i'm leary of overhead objects. _________________

FYI: Please remember the early ones have a tube on the bottom. Later, after 84, is flat. I am happy my early 85 has flat on the bottom. So some solutions will not work for everybody. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

main table is the one that gets in my way all the time and I just can't tighten it so it doesn't move. Think I'll take it out and either stow it or take it right out. I've taken my upper berth cushions out as I wouldn't use them anyway and this way they stay in shape. _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

I added a small catch I found at West Marine to hold it back against the wall. Saved my table from the trash heap as I couldn't stand it swinging back and forth. Not sure of the part number, but I could find it. Works great. _________________ '89 Syncro Westy
