I don't recall which systems are tied to it (wipers, heater?, ac, radio?) there are like five or so, but non-essential stuff that would otherwise take power away from the starter when you are starting the engine is turned off.

Look at the upper (panel) gray area in the schematics of the bentley for your MY and I think the bus is marked 'X'. Everything powered through that is turned off while starting.
