Thank you for confirming.

Another thing that I'm trying to figure out is which style box to use.
There are two types, one for headlights, another for an auxiliary circuit.
See the picture below, one has a bridged terminals.
Which style is correct for headlights?

Regarding the comments about adding 2 more fuses for high/low beams, would using a 4 circuit fuse box be a good idea?
or will it be frowned upon for not being correct?
Again bridged or non bridged?

Has anyone actually bought the wolfsburg west 58/59 interior kit? Its priced just over a grand for seat covers and door panels. Also says nothing about the correct colored cardboard backer for the rear seat. I know the simple answer is west coast classics but just trying to weigh my options out before spending the money.

I have not purchased the interior from Wolfsburg West. However, the below video may help. Chris Vallone purchased the interior from West Coast Classics, which makes the WW interiors. It appears very close to the original. However, the seams in the door panels are sewn while the originals were heat seamed. In the video you can see the rear seat comes with the correct backing (minus the bars.)

Hey guys,

I found a 1958 beetle and it doesn’t have its original body or ID plate.
They swaped the body with a regular sedan beetle in 70’s.

Current owner claims it is an original convertible pan, but how can I confirm whether it is an original vert car or not?

Cheers

Without the vert body tag to get the model ID#, I think your only option is to obtain a birth certificate..

Post the numbers...

If the VIN # is at the beginning of Feb and the engine is at the end of January, it very well could be original.

1840xxx is from near the end of Feb., 1958 - Maybe 3rd week of Feb?
2183xxx is from mid-Jan., 1958

I would say No, it's not the original in that case.

The originals I have seen can usually be pinned down to at least the same week if you do the math on how many were made per month.

I took a look at my engine and body numbers, based on the 1959 vw financial report, that says in 1958 they were doing 1866 cars a day.
Doing the math on the production numbers for December, the car was built on the 9th day of December production, and the engine about the same.

One of th re comments in the financial report was a major production increase from 58 to 59, so there might be a bigger spread in engine/chassis production.

Of course, the financial report might be calendar year, or fiscal year....I doubt it's model year. Was the factory working Mon to Fri, or Saturdays as well?

I understand if one requests a certificate and provides the engine number they will tell you if it's the original one, but they don't include an engine number otherwise.

Thank you for your reply. When I check the VIN number's here, your given vin and engine number's are in the same month's production. So it is very likely to match.

But as Everett mentioned mine are in different month's, so probably this engine does not original to this chasis.

But doesn't matter for me, I am buing this car any way Laughing

It is hard to find 1958 beetles, and it will be even more difficult to find Wink

Need some help. I’m in the middle of tearing down my pan on my 59 beetle (October 1958) and for the life of me cannot remove the rear torsion bars / spring plates. Both sides move up and down but no matter what I do I can’t get them to come out. Any techniques/tools/suggestions/etc. would be immensely appreciated!

Original as in factory or dealer or aftermarket?? Factory accessory it was not. Dealers would stock different aftermarket accessories.

Have you tried the "Archive" button at upper right of this webpage you are reading from right now?? Down on the lower right of that page thru that link is the "Accessories" that show all sorts of cool stuff.

Probably best to try searching in the "Accessories/Memorabilia/Toys" forum for such. If then no luck would try posting a thread there about this subject.
