Nice! I'm not a 58/59 expert but one thing that did jump out at me is it looks like it has later high back seats made into low backs.

Reason: The release knob on the side - that is a later high back seat thing

esauerwein, Love that color combination Cool . Are you planning to re-install the front and rear overrider supports and snugging up the front bumperettes (bumper guards)?

I thought 67 seats had low backs with the release knob?

Mid-to-late '67 seats had low backs with the side release knob. But you can see that the knob on the release is from a high back. The knob for '67 is smooth just like the dash knobs and '67-only black rubber radio knobs. Also, the lower arms that attach to the seat bottom is different; later style.
See the difference here (ignore the lower release lever, it's the early '67 style before the release got relocated to the side of the seat back)

The dash trim on my glove box rattles. Was there any kind of rubber washer or gasket under the clips from new or are my clips just miss shaped because someone in the past has removed the trim and reinstalled when the car was painted? They go nowhere near holding the trim tight. Is there a source for new clips?
Thanks

There was no rubber washer used on the 58/59 trim. only a speed nut, like whats pictured above. You just need to make sure that they are plenty tight on the trim posts, and you shouldnt get any rattling. Cool

Thanks stale air. The speed nuts on my '58 are round not rectangular. Are they usually rectangular? My car is CKD assembled in New Zealand. There was a reasonably high local content so that may have included these speed nuts? I think the rectangular ones would work better.

Gday all, this is my first post on the samba. Ive lurked for a little bit and have finally decided to join mainly due to this 58/59 discussion. Im in australia and have a 1958 bug with aussie flash trim. Mine was last registered in 1984. Mine has what looks like a cigar holder in the ashtray. A locking pushbutton handle on the glovebox lid. It has blade bumpers with short over riders, there is no holes present to have tall over riders. I have a flying vw badge. I also have window washer nozzles and a molded water bottle that goes behing the bonnet latch. I cant find much info on it but it is a vw item that locks into place in that area

Well i hope you all like it. It is going through a transformation at the moment. I have seperated the body from the floor and about to get the floor sanblasted and i will be painting it. I have a 2 inch beam i have put together with new king and linkpins, 2 inch dropped spindles and rebuild steering box. A rebuilt gearbox. Disc brake kit for the front and leaving drums on the rear. I am leaving the body in the patina and repairing the little bit of rust that it has.

Hi all,
Bought a 58 and the wheels are in poor condition.
The car is Capri blue but the rims look darker?
Any idea what blue is used for the rim of the wheels?
Regards.

The two colors correct for Capri are L82 Silver White, and L336 Deep Blue.

No problem, and good luck!
Having, or not not having the correct color wheels can make or break a resto in my opinion. Cool
