I must have missed your cars vin # in this thread. Seams like I have seen
a lot of January cars recently. Nice car BTW. What was the original color?

I am a proud owner of a 1958 beetle sedan and waiting to receive my birth certificate.
Vin # 1797XXX I think that makes it a Jan. 58
I think the original color is Capri blue.

I did some quick figuring and I have your 58 being built somewhere around Jan 18th give or take a day... Eh?

yes I have. Do you have a birth certificate?
When I first found The Samba I was asking about my dash chrome. This is when I thought my bug was a Dec/57 but it is a Jan/58
Here is the URL:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=395876&highlight=dash+trim

I only had one piece of the glovebox trim and I was trying to find the rest on Samba.
I recieved to different stamped trim and both sellers said they came off of 58s. The piece I had that came with my bug was the one on the right stamped 'Huf' it's the same stamp that is on my key.

Here is a pic of my original key

I went with the Huf chrome trim and sold the rest.
I hope I chose the right one?

Are you sure they should be gray? Mine are the same color as the cardboard backing in my case they were the red/brown color of the interior. I also have a set that is gray as well but I just assumed they were from a car with gray interior. Every one I've ever seen had the same color bars as the cardboard backing.

My interior is gray/blue, the vinyl is dark blue but the backing is a blueish gray color and the bars are the the same color. I just bought a set of gray bars so I can match the paint when they arrive and paint mine the right color (the ones I bought a bit beat up).

Gas tank, dash support bracket, heater tube covers under rear seat, passenger armrest support bracket inside door are all the same color gray, do you have any of the other pieces you can compare to the luggage rails?

Thanks, I appreciate it. I am getting ready to paint my gas tank and want to do all the same L29 at the same time.

The last owner tried to restore this car, but most of the works are awful. Wrong parts from different years are welded in and many parts where sandblasted and after that not coverd with primer. It will be much work for me and I have to cut out many parts. Even the floor panels are new but the welding is very bad.

I'd say it's all worth it for a sunroof '59.

It took about 6 weeks to get mine from him, the wait waas well worth it though. I also knew going in there was a 6-8 week lead time on the stuff.

Cool, thanks for the info. Originally they told me around 2 weeks. Its been almost a month since I got billed for them, and over a month since we first talked.
Its actually the last thing I have left to do on the car, so Im a little anxous. Wink
