NOS Early 58/59 Bug Wiper Arms & Blades
Here we have a rare set of 2 early bug wiper blades and arms these are original Nos SWF. The difference on these is they take the small hole bases the same as an oval but the blade is a little longer for the larger windshield of a 58 .
Revised listing:
53-57 thin arm one piece design right and left designation
58-59 thin arm one piece design longer blades right left designation (both horizontal)
60-64 thick arm two piece design interchangeable designation |
Wow, ya truly learn something new every day.
I have never seen a post 57 bug with that style arm/blade on them.
Even my sitting next to a barn since 72 58 had the later style on it.
I bet as soon as the later cost saving style came out the earlier ones when the way of the dodo bird. Pretty cool stuff, thanks for gettng to the bottom of it.
Btw, I do find it also interesting that the ones posted are black, and not silver. Repaint? For a standard? _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

Now were getting somewhere... So I wonder if the 58/59's used the same base as the 57's? _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

Here is the PR listing
Agave looks to be correct about the one piece until 59. So does this mean 58 and part of 59 actually used oval arms?

Im not an oval expert, but I believe that on the early ovals the blades/arms were one peice. But, all the later cars had replacable blades, removable from the arm.
The ones on my car I picked up some years back nos with the SWF stamp on them. My arms are the original ones that came on the car. |
I have to get a set, as mine are long gone? I will have to look for either the SWF, or AVOG? I never did like the way the "Ovals" passenger wiper sat at an angle... _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

Ya dont, the only difference is that originals will have SWF imbossed into where the blade slides onto the arm. Generic ones are not marked. |
Aren't the SWF wipers a one piece unit? I read that it wasn't till June 59 that SWF offered the blade and arm as seperate pieces? |

How do you tell a wiper set up for a 58/59, versus the generic ones offered up to 64? |

Im not quite sure whats up with your passenger side arm, but it should not look like what you would see on an oval. I cant remember in what year the wipers parked in the other direction, but your passenger arm/blade almost looks like its supposed to park on the opposite side. Both of the blades should be the same length, and the arms should not only look the same, but while in the parked postiton should lay flat down at the bottom of the windshield. Here is a pic to show ya what I mean......

The passenger side is the only one that is different. The arm itself positions the blade at 11/5 o'clock while the drivers is horizontal.
For 60-64 both of the blades are horizontal. |
Only on an oval...... _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

My '59 doesn't have the little metal strip. It looks EXACTLY like hootowls' though, only I've hammered most of the dents out (I can't get to the ones in the very corners though...).
How were the wiper arms '58/'59 only? _________________ Jason Hopper

I notice Sunroof's 1959 Canadian Sunroof Standard model. Does anyone else have an early square window standard model on here? Here is my German home-market May 1959 factory sunroof Standard model, delivered to Mahag in Munich and specially ordered in a colour from the Deluxe range available for that year, L14 Reseda Green, whereas Standards in Germany normally only came in L225 Jupiter Grey and L344 Reed Green. Took it to Hessisch Oldendorf last year and to Wolfsburg for its 50th anniversary.

Mario brought this up when I sent him pics of my spare tire area. Notice the metal strip where the spare tire would sit, what is this for? I also notice that the bottom portion of Hootowls spare tire is raised?

Thanks. This looks good. Not too far away from my repo-part actually. I should be able to "optimize" the repo a bit.
Do you have a picture from the same spot from the outside, i.e. from under the car? _________________ cheers, Mario
