Vin,
Here is a link to the guy that does those square tube chassis.
http://www.berrienbuggy.com/id63.htm
We build off stock pans only for legal reasons in California. We do offer suspension kits that anyone can add to one of his chassis or stock vw pans... _________________ Kevin "Coolrydes" Zagar

I would like to see pictures of where the Mendeola suspension is attached to the Berrian chassis. This is the same chassis we are starting with so any ideas in advance will be a great help.
Thanks |

Wanted to show a few comparisons of the Mendeola kit and std bug fronts.
Side view.
The arrival of the kit. Very nice work. All notching perfect, excellent welding.
Very nice. And I am very happy!
I will show some shots of cutting off the front of the Berrian chassis and welding on the Mendeola.
Thanks Kevin, nice job. |

Some shots of the custom rear Mendeola trailing arms and suspension. These arms are two inches longer to help move engine/transmission weight forward and they are two inches wider per side to allow the use of stock offsets on Porsche 18 x 12 wide wheels.
The rear bare arm without hub or swaybar.
Rear arm with wheel roughly in place shows the reason for offset.
Side view of bare arm without hub or swaybar.

What are these dimensions at mendeola spindle?
In my pic base thickness is 12mm and seal are height is 15mm...just guessing.
I'd like to complete my front brake design and start to make parts soon for the front suspension

Basic 911 (996) calipers from 1st gen watercooled 911. Originally used also at boxster S, stock rotor for these is 320x28. Rotors are wilwood 330x28.
Should be enough, that 996 porsche runs 178 mph (286 km/h) and 4.9 secs to 0-62 mph, weighing 2,920 lb (1,320 kg) |

Sorry for being a**hole, torsionbar front suspension and swingaxle rear suspension are not really a part of performance chassis
Picked from germanlook.net, sad but true
"Fundamentally, the BJ/LP trailing arm design is miles behind the Macpherson strut design and it is doubtful whether you could get close to the same performance in any empirically assessable way."
"Whether you can get a beetle to handle as well as a modern car is also doubtful, irrespective of whether it is a BJ/LP or strut front suspension especially as the design is 40 years old at best, 80 years old at worst. Your '70 beetle will be a swing axle rear that is definitely an 80 year old design that no modern manufacturer would consider. Even the IRS rear is old hat that having been superseded by multi links that do not toe-out in roll for example. Porsche have tamed the wayward 911 IRS rear with multilinks."

design is 40 years old at best, 80 years old at worst.
