thought a 1972 only engine setup belonged in this thread also
thats from Ratwell's site. mines almost there, but since its a W engine block, the breather, fill and dipstick are located different
I really like the look of the oil bath air cleaner and low-pro engine

I'd never seen the 72 OG set up before. Who needs the hatch with that thing. was this set up lower than the Type 1? |

Exactly .........It's lower than a type 1 by far, the top of a type 1 shroud clears the top by 2-3". _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Traded my baja bug for this Nov.1, 1972 Bus. This is when I first got it home. Not much has changed other than it's in the garage now waiting for me to get off my lazy arse and put the other motor in I scored.[/img] _________________ 1969 Transporter

Haven't posted here in a long time, but a '72 only thread got me all excited.

As far as aircooled VWs go, there really is nothing like a nice bright and clean type 4 motor. _________________ BUS FOR SALE

You need the hatch because it opens behind the aux. heater blower. And when that bus has the blower installed, it's a bizzle to do anything in there . Peace! _________________

Even with the blower fan in there, with some proper extensions and swivel joints for your ratchets working on anything in there is no problem.
After a while you learn to do it all by feel and touch.
With a right angle drill you can even helicoil your manifold studs with no problem. _________________ BUS FOR SALE

I agree, unlike later models there's not much you have to get at up in there, no hatch? no biggie!
Back to the pics, I kinda like this one:

I gotta ask, are those over-riders upside down? That looks good and I just test fitted one of mine onto my bus. I'm still in my pj's so I really should not be working on this project just yet. Did your OR's have a square hole on one end? Mine do and I was wondering if you had same and filled them. Also, like the black rims; I might have to change now, thanks. |
Sorry for the late response,
Not sure about the square. The OR's have never been off the bumper. They're placed just as they were when it was purchased by my grandfather. I painted the rims with flat black heat temp paint just prior to putting the tires on. |

Mine has a build date of 8/71 with the later hatch, but maybe the hatch isn't original _________________ BUS FOR SALE
