The sticker states the year of manufacture, not the model year. I think the cutoff month is August? -so that makes yours a 72, probably got a nose job. |
I think that's the gist of it. Late July/August cutoff. My '72 has a manufacture date of July 31st 1971 and has a very low VIN 1121 for that year indicating it was an early bay in the run. My engine case stamp is only CB000076... poor tired old engine.
I found one of my busses siblings also incredibly enough.. owned by Jim @ Air Cooled Ranch. His '72 VIN ends in 974, also a Sierra Yellow and was on the same boat from Germany even!! Cool stuff.

And a video showing his '72 Sierra weekender here (nearer the end of the video):

Interesting, mine is earlier than those two. Someone commented on my thread that they had one in the 500s, it was exactly the same M-plate except destination and vin. All the same options, ours were both weekenders too. I wonder if they were all made for Westfalia first.
Here’s my M-plate

If anyone has a set of 72 only rear bumper side brackets they want to get rid of, please let me know. Thanks.
Glad I found this 72 only front tow loop in my dad's stash of parts.
Hope to install it in the next few days. |

1972 here as well, posted this in a another thread but have no answer - is this reversed hold down bracket for the OEM jack storage location a 1972 only thing? Or is it a non-walkthrough thing? Anyone know?
From what I am seeing in the manual, this bracket should be oriented 180 degress from what mine is:
From the manual:

Yes, it is probably because the cylinder heads are slightly shifted from side to side instead of straight across from each other.. has to do with where the rods fit/come off the crank and such. Asymmetrical

I know this might be changing the subject a little but does anyone know if the bar you hook the accelerator cable to on a Dual Weber carburetors supposed to be slightly angled from side to side? Thanks. |
