While at the Wawa (local convenience store) today there were a few cops there and one was betting the others that they couldn't identify my car. Sure enough, none of the other cops knew what it was. They asked me to confirm that it really is called a "Thing". |
Mmmmm Wawa is bomb, Sheets has pepperoni rolls though. _________________ 66 fastback |

A few more from recent outings:
You look like your having too much fun driving that Thing!
You should be in California with that car.
Your car is ugly but I like it. _________________ Old City Oil Drippers Northeast |

Today, after parking....
Older gentleman "How much would it take for me to buy that car from you. I would really like to restore it to the original German Army."
Me, after a short, confused pause, "I don't think that they would take it back." _________________ '73 Thing

It does seem to be a popular combination. I wonder why...
I guess for me - they are the two poles of the VW globe. They are both VW and super cool, but the two models basically are different in every other way. _________________ '73 Thing

The "Does it float?" questions may have come from here...

There was also a magazine ad, the one that National Lampoon parodied about Teddy K.

If I had only had that on my little 66' ghia convertible....
Then I wouldn't of had to act like a sole member of a downhill loge team as I self push started and jumped in to pop the clutch out. _________________ "Okay, so there's 6 beers and 5 of us. You know what this means don't you? 4 of you are going to have to leave."

Stopped in at the nearby parts house for an 1157 for my front turn signal. The guy saw I was driving the Thing and as I paid for the bulb asked "what's this for? some kinda tractor?" _________________ One thing that never changes is that everything is subject to change. |

Well, as the Ruski's say, "Uh, Traktor. Cast iron good, plastic bad!"

This week a co-worker asked me
"How long did it take you to build your car?"
I said it's a VW - it was built in their factory in Mexico. _________________ '74 Thing [Fritz]

Drove my thing to a BBQ party with some non-VW friends a couple of weekends back...one of the ladies in her late 40's came in and said "I love your it" I promptly spit my rum & coke all over the place...she thought they were called an "It" instead of "Thing" ...guess I need to get the lower logo decal on it that says "The Thing". _________________ 1979 Type-2 Westfalia “Sandy”

Just today I was stopped in my work parking lot by a guy who said, "I'm admiring it.
I replied, "oh yeah? my VW Thing."
He said, " I bet you get that a lot..." _________________ '74 Thing [Fritz]

I had a guy pull over into my lane and block the road with his car to ask me if I would sell my Thing. It was in a 35 MPH zone and I thought he was drunk or something and just passed out and going to hit me. Turned out to be a nice guy. _________________ 73 Thing
