Vanagon alloy wheels for $20 a pop. Wow, I remember paying $600 for a set of four 20 years ago for my GL.

The Audi rings on the front and the 6 cylinders notation in the ad make you wonder what's going on. No engine pix among all those posted, of course.

$50k for a tintop Syncro? I might have to consider selling mine at these prices.

Quote:
1986 VW Vanagon Syncro - 45k in Restorations Price: 49500
I always wanted a Syncro and this one popped up in my state. I was the first to put an offer in. By the time I got there to finish the paperwork the dealership had 18 people on hold with three willing to fly in from out of state.

I also own a 1982 Westy camper as well which is almost restored. We just moved into a new house and we are running out of space. I've gotten the orders that one has to go so I'm going to keep the 1982 Westy and let the Syncro go. Happy wife, happy life...

I literally bought it, it passed Delaware inspection perfect (two years on the tag), I had all the fluids changed and parked it in my garage.

Here is what I can tell you.

The previous owner bought it from Washington State. He put $45,000.00 into restoring it. I have the receipts and I know the mechanic (only one VW Westy specialist in Delaware). He verified the restorations.

Here is what I can tell you as a layman then I'll give you the list that was given to me:

- It's been repainted VW Blue (looks white to me).
- New decals.
- Starts, drives and runs great. No issues that I can detect.
- Undercarriage looks awesome and clean.
- Has a Westy sink and stove that works.
- Everything is clean.
- Engine is new.

I found a list of repairs/restorations from the previous owner which I'll list now:

New upgraded rebuilt motor with only 1300 miles on it
Upgraded Heads
Fresh paint and body work - Volkswagen blue - Some small imperfections
New Decoupler
New bluetooth head unit radio with 6 speakers and new speaker box in the rear
New faux leather rear seats and bed attachment
New Front seats - Fold Flat
New carpet
Acacia hardwood floors - easy to clean
New rear view mirrors
New headlights
LED marker lights
New bumpers
Bosal exhaust
All new stainless cooling system
Gauge cluster - RPM not working
New Syncro Coolant Hose kit
New Radiator Pressurized Reservoir
Syncro Coolant Pipe Kit Lower Center
New Radiator
Cooling Duct Fan Switch
Thermostat - 80 degree (lower than stock) temp
Push Rod Tube Protective Covers
Pump Pipe to Thermostat Housing Hose
A lot more associated parts

--

That's it. Just an FYI, I don't have a need to sell it other than the space issue so I'll entertain any serious offer.

I travel quite ofter internationally so please contact me if you would like to see it in person so we can schedule a time.

Also, I can provide a link to Google photos upon request with way more photos.

Nothing he mentioned makes it a 50k syncro. Gauges dont work and he doesnt even seem familiar with what was done to the van besides what was told to him.

No engine conversion, no info about a rebuild, and gauges dont work.

Did the paint shop paint over the windshield nozzles? Is that paint on the weather stripping? Looks like the seal around the windshield and hatch glass shrank possible rust under the windshield seam?

I like high value syncros setting the bar. But if this $50k then mine is $1 bajillion. But like the seller said. He doesn't need to sell and probably doesn't want to.

For those of you who want to spend the not-insignificant time and effort to remove your old pop top canvas to replace it with a used one (advertised as dirty and with a hole), here is a great deal for you.

https://denver.craigslist.org/pts/d/original-grey-vw-vanagon/6616458408.html

Only $145.

This Craigslist user has been reposting weekly this old rag for months.

If the owner is reading this, I'll paypal you $20 to throw it away and stop setting off my Craigslist alert.

Imagine how much more he could get for it if he'd patch that one hole. Wait, is that a second hole I spy below the first one?

For those of you that are thinking luxury for your Vanagon.... it says it's a converter so I am assuming it changes your vanagon to another brand of fine luxury autos? Laughing

Geeze, between this and the $345 Dometic fridge with no door, I’m going to part out my van and list the parts for a total of $1,000,000.

I tried giving away a Dometic here before I eventually took it to the dump.
