I might expect a clean title to be in amazing condition, but what about the van? _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

A van on the CL with diamond plate rocker panels. Interesting idea for trim, but anybody out there wants to find out what's lurking behind it?

$20k for a well used 2WD single cab? I'm scratching my head on that one. Is there something I'm missing here except the seller going for the grand slam home run?

You guessed it. Nice, rare truck. Not worth 20k though. _________________ 86 Vanagon Westfalia 87k

Ill be surprised if he gets half of what he wants.
Sometimes I wonder if these people selling at these prices understand exactly how much $20k really is? _________________ Life is short and the road is long so if you want to see it all you have to drive fast! |

Here's a CL ad for an '86 Syncro. Typical Craig's List features include:
1. One sentence description.
2. High price with no mention of features that would justify the ask.
3. Not shot at night, but covered in snow (kinda the same thing).
4. Wanting a serious buyer with so little information.
5. Only two pictures including this one of it in the snow and behind a fence.
The higher the asking price, the more effort you should put into selling it is something I've found to be pretty effective.

That Syncro ad makes me think of a guy I know from Miami whose wife told him he had to put his rusty 181 up for sale.
So he advertised it for $6 grand. He told me "So I did what she wanted... but no one will ever buy it" _________________ '89 Vanagon GL Wolfsburg "Bluestar" (given to and owned by my son now)

Surprisingly, that's right above market price for those hubcaps. Usually they're $150-175. They're fairly rare and look great if they're on the right van. I've seen several "want to buy" ads on the samba over the years from people who only have two or three.
I got the ones above at a VW meet. The guy wanted $20 for the set. When I pulled out my wallet, he said, "you know those are for a Vanagon, right?" _________________ Joe T.

Yeah those are great looking hubcaps, always liked them, BUT.... 200 seems crazy for hub caps.
I bought a set of clk's for 180 and turned down another set of clk for 225. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Here's the syncro from above. This time with less snow and more details.

I can't even find CLKs for ~180ea.
consider your market and pricing fortunate.

Several years back I was with a friend in a parking lot and someone had these on his car.
My friend approached the guy about the wheels, the guy said he'd like different rims but didn't want to pay whatever the price was ( I think it was about 600 ? ) for his new rims, but, knowing that he had a buyer waiting with cash for his old wheels made the difference.
I think my buddy gave him about 200 for that set.
I don't know about your area, but I've noticed 2 or 3 clk's in the last month or two with these old rims still on them

I'll reiterate that a CL WTB ad in Auto Parts/All Wheels and Tires worked for me. I posted a wheel pic for positive ID and noted the Mercedes years and model. Got two calls, one with a set of four for an outrageous price that I passed on and the second for $200. Good luck! _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

I kind of thought the same. I'm local to that van and thought about looking at it in person, but the main pic with the box covers (and everything else) all painted the same color made me think better of it.
It could be a worthwhile project for someone if negotiable. _________________ 86 Vanagon Westfalia 87k

Here's a pic of the knoxville Westy. Did they paint over a sagging slider door seal?
