I think it looks pretty good. You don't see running driving syncros for under 10k anymore so under $12K with a rebulit locker transaxle from a well regarded shop is nice. Supposedly 30-40K on motor is great too (sounds like no docs maybe on that?) And the wheels are nice too but only cost $500 or so. Engine and tranny are the 2 most expensive items unless you plan to fix dents and repaint.
Why not sold? Hard to say. Maybe it is rougher looking than the photos show. Dents and the interior needs some TLC but the condition appears to be priced into it. I'd ask for more close ups and dig into what works and what doesn't and if it is being regularly driven or just sitting. His feedback looks good. I don't see any obvious red flags. |

Typical CL ad with a picture showing how little effort spent trying to make this engine presentable. I think there is a motor in there somewhere.

Anyone know the going rate to have a body shop fix that kitchen rot? Not to mention the other areas.. From collecting all the metal alone, I can tell you its at least $800 to just get the proper kitchen panels, and I have no idea how much a shop would charge after that (plus, of course they'd mark up the metal, too, and insist they source it)
I'd be guessing at around $15000 for body work and paint job.
Then it would be sellable for around $15000 _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

Peacevans starts at $13K - $15K for full paint job including some rust repair. _________________ - Jim

Never noticed the black interior. Anybody know how rare this is? Seems like grey is the most common interior color followed by brown then blue then black.

@RainierSyncro About 1000 Caravelle "Ton in Ton" had this black interior in 1983. It was a limited model for the introduction of the Waterboxer. And in the USA it was available from 1985 to 1986, in Vanagon GL with metalic exterior colours like Flashsilver and Wolfgang Grey, so it's ultra rare. |

The address is for NorthWesty in Renton. They must have busted up a rusty camper. |
