Limey is still doing well and I'm going to have to change the ECU tuning to run on pump gas as I've just handed in my notice and will be moving on to a new job. No more free AVGAS Wink

I'm also looking at changing the final drive up from 6.17 to 5.83.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

A few reasons for this.

I'd like a slightly better cruising speed and combined with the larger tyres and 0.70 4th gives me 3,000rpm at 70mph.

My projects are evolving again and I need the 6.17s that are in Limey for the Lightweight.

Oh... small news. We have another son Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

My first son (now 2 years old) is taking well to having a little brother but playing up more with us. We'll see if he settles down a bit as we're only into day six.

Time for me to ask for help...

I've just bought a Westfalia Hightop top bed child safety guard but... it doesn't fit Sad

It's a bit strange as it came from a Westy Hightop (no it's not the pop-top version, they're very different).

First off, it looks to be an original guard, the material matches my mosquito nets in colour, netting material and press studs and the price I paid took into the account that it doesn't fit... so I won't be sending it back. I'll be modifying it fit.

The issues are:

1) The pole when in the extended position is too short. I can get around
this easily by drilling an extra hole into the outer pole.

2) The material is too long. It folds underneath the main board by a good 30cm. I have no idea as to how this should fit as I can't find any photos of an original. I don't want to screw press studs to the underneath of the board as this board sits on top of the next one when stowed away.

It could be that this has been built wrong... or it could be that it's from an entirely different vehicle like an LT of the same era.

Does anyone have one fitted? Or photos of one.... or a brochure of one... or instructions (original) for fitting?

Also, I picked up a nice spare wheel jerry can. It's a Bellino 7 litre version.
I just need to work out a fixing for it including a lock.

I have that same Bellino/Mercedes 7L can. It fits perfectly inside a 14" Vanagon alloy, and then under the skid plate clam shell up front underneath. Peace of mind.

Sorry no.

On reflection, I'm going to have to retract that last statement about it being for sale.

I just need a break from the vans atm.

Sorry.

Limey stays put.

I'm looking to sort out the rather hot running engine and running lean under boost so a set of 440cc injectors are on their way.

I'm also looking at an RS2 FPR and then possibly RS2 exhaust manifold and turbo.

Apparently the standard K24 runs out of puff at around 280bhp and runs hot. I have a feeling that the boost pressure that I'm running is a little more than it should be!

You will allways have a hot engine in this car.
Just check what intercooler size the RS2 engines have.
For a reliable engine like this below, made by a Swiss tuner, you need about 30k Euro + stock engine.
The turbo you need is about 3500.
Just getting more hp with turbopressure will destroy your stock engine fast.
You need to mashine your head for more hp with lower pressure.

Thanks Waldi.

Is that for your T3? What is the specification?

I realised only recently that I don't have the auxiliary water pump working for when the engine is off. I must get that system working along with the radiator cooling fan on slow speed but only when the engine is off.

I also must get the cooling fan for the exhaust manifold/turbo cooling working again for when the engine bay temperature goes above 100oC.

I use a Pace 3 core water to air intercooler. I don't know what size air to air intercooler it would be equal to. I also modified it from 10mm to 19mm coolant hose size for more flow.

I used Limey today to take a pillar drill home with a small trailer. It is quite warm here today (24oC) so the radiator fan was in/out all of the time on slow speed.

Its a 630hp engine for a S2.
I would never install a gaser turbo engine in a T3.
Too expensive, too thursty, too hot.
Just imagine what will happen driving it with over 30C here today or in Italy with 40C.

Air-water-air intercoolers are just a compromise.
You wont find them with frontegines if there is space for a big air-air cooler.
Even Porsche has a air-air intercooler in the rear.

Ps: Gratz for you new child.

Ok. I have done TDi and won't do it again in a T3 Syncro. I prefer this engine.

The problem with a T3 is that you can't get proper air flow to an air to air intercooler... so air to water is the only option.

There are OE cars with the water to air intercooler now from BMW and Ford. The Focus RS (345bhp) and BMW M3 (425bhp) so they are being used on current cars with a lot more bhp than I am using.

As i have told.
If there is space.
Some fronts of newer cars just do not have space for big air-air coolers.

Also this are more modern engines.
The Ford has 1,4bar turbo pressure.
BMW M5 1,5bar.

Performance cars use nearly allways air-air intercoolers.

A small update.

As I've filled the rain gutters with sealant, now when it rains the water rains into the van when you have the sliding door open, even with the wind out canopy open.

So I've bought a seal from Fiamma to fit between the canopy and the roof.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It fits the other way around inbetween the canopy top ridge and the roof.

I've also decided to pull out the set of South African steel bumpers to fit to Limey.

I've only had them about 4 years Very Happy

A couple of hours work this evening and I have an SA front bumper fitted.

A quick rub down and some satin black paint had it looking much better.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I thought about how I wanted it to look on the van and I decided that I like the original rubbing strips fitted to the top of the range with the chrome bumpers.

The reason that Limey had these on with a black bumper is that the chrome bumper is much stronger than the standard bumper but I didn't want chrome bumpers so I painted a chrome bumper black. The OE chrome bumpers have the extra holes for the rubbing strips. I decided to fit the rubbing strips to cover up the holes and prefer the look.

Long term, I still want to re-paint Limey a different colour and the bumpers will be colour coded at that point... but I want the rubbing strips to break up the colour a bit.

Fitted...

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I need to fit the support brackets underneath. I have some left over from Skogen but they'll need welding on.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I've offered up the door pods but unfortunately the canopy bracket on the right front door is in the way so I'll have to move that before I can fit them.

The rear bumper will take a lot more work to make it fit. I will have to remove the rear mud flaps or come up with some way that they can work with the SA rear bumper. Then I need to shorten the side pieces and change the angle of the leading edge to match the arch. That's not going to happen quickly.

I'm looking at upgrades for Limey's interior.

Namely changing the guts of the fridge to a compressor fridge, fitting a solar panel to run it off and fitting an LPG tank underneath rather than having a bottle inside the van.

More to come as I go along...

Due to the pound () taking a dip and the dollar shooting up etc, this is only sensible.

Limey is for sale for serious offers 40,000.

Full spec: email me. There is too much to write atm but it is as you see in the last few posts.
