Just started fixing up a 70 thing that has been sitting for about 25ish yrs. Did the plugs, oil, pulled the tank, carb is off but ready to go. There was fuel in the line when I went to blow it out. Question is, should I put the carb on and try it out, or is it safe to assume that the original fuel pump is going to be shot and I should just pull it. Also, if I do pull it, will I be able to rebuild it with a rebuild kit(chirco), or are the rebuild kits only for the newer style round top type fuel pumps? I am kinda fond of the oem fuel pump. Already started it with the help of some starting fluid in the intake - sounds great!

You can rebuild a fuel pump, it's real easy. The cost however may be comparable to just buying a new pump unless you prefer a german unit as opposed to the brazilian replacements out there .
