Im putting the smaller trim on my 66 which has had the holes welded up at some point, thinking about trim the plastic clip down so they are flat when you slide them in the trim, using more than normal and gluing them in place, then using the 3m trim tape. Has anyone done similar and how did it work out?

In all technicality this (white/red example) is a homemade knock off version of the Australian Flash Trim. (still looks good IMO)

Rolled double sided plastic chrome molding works very well too.

Good Flash Trim information from here. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=203130

There were several versions offered.

This is the real deal MV12 or VW20 version which seems to be the most popular.

Or, run a bead of urethane windshield adhesive down the center of the trim & press the trim to the side of the car & tape it in place for a few hours.

So has anyone done the 3M tape with success? Shaving the clips down then adding a touch of glue so they dont move then adding double sided tape sounds like a good idea but wont there be spaces in the areas that dont have clips? Meaning only the areas with tape touch the body???

I just did this a couple weeks ago with great results. PO had Cal-looked the car, so there were no clip holes in hood or doors. I used the tape below, ran 2 strips along entire length each piece of stock trim. Looks great and holds strong.
