My 1964 bus has a worn out, undersized 12v battery in it that i need to replace with something bigger and newer. What size do i ask for, or can i just ask for what would fit in say a '68 bay window?
(yes, i did a search and looked through the FAQ's) _________________ Thanks,

when you say under sized, how is it undersized? most any battery will work if it will fit the battery compartment. You cant go wrong with too much cold cranking amps. Whats your battery rated at? Oh y eah I forgot, is it a 6 or 12 volt system? _________________ Waiting for santa to drop off funky green. I can wish can't I???? |

Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks, guys
And, the existing batt looks way undersized as it does not fill the battery 'tray' at all.
Btw: the motor is a 1200 somethingorother. Not had a chance to investigate further as it runs fine and I've been getting the rest of the van ready for the Out Of Province Inspection. _________________ Thanks,

Here is my setup in my '66 Sundial that was converted to 12 volt.
This Interstate 12 volt battery utilizes the 6 volt battery-sized tray and strap and modified cover. Hope this helps!

If you're not using a cover, you'll need a slightly taller one. |

Thanks, but the info I am after is the size of battery not the type.
BTW: My bus did not come with a 6v battery cover or clamp.
Thanks again, all! _________________ Thanks,

I run a "group 42" series battery. The brand is up to you. All battery places and most parts stores will know what this means. It's in reference to the dimensions of the battery. |

That, is what I needed to know. Thanks Mike
As an update on the initial request. I changed my ground strap, put a new end on the positive lead, cleaned and resoldered some of the connections and wires on the regulator and charged up the battery. All appears to be well so far with the old battery, but it's over four years old, and so will need to be changed soon I am sure. _________________ Thanks,
