I think we need to have a "van-shaming" thread.
Post a picture of your van with a sign around its neck saying what it did bad.

Hi DJ
Didn't you already reseal your transmission in your weekender build thread or was that someone else?
I need to reseal my automatic as well. Leaks are smaller but still need to be fixed
Cheers

I have one of those pics! Slave cylinder failure in my case. Now I just put newspaper down if I'm going to be gone for awhile.

I had to laugh at my own sins when I saw your photo. You word selection brought me back to puppy training days. It is like that moment you come home after an unrealistically long day. You know what you are walking into. Certainly the dog had an accident. You want to say something so the dog doesnt think it is ok to relieve itself whenever, at the same time you know it is your fault. I always thank my van when it gives up the ghost at my house, especially after returning home from an epic trip and the next day or so it lays down. |

Does Coolant count?
Bad Thermo & Bad stage 1 fan resistor made Red sick for a long time.
Bonus points if you can find the dog that got a free ride in a tow truck later. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL / Carat Interior / Auto - White "Daily"

Like the blown master cylinder after my 2,000 mile trip from MT to UT and back. Well, actually it became noticeable on the way home but luckily not too bad. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |

Well, I've put up with this Van and it's poor untrained Potty habits for awhile now.
I fiddled with it over the Winter but failed to pull the unit out, no big trips were planned until 2018. I had the luxury of time! ....... My how things change!
I was thinking that the leak was various bad orings on the governor cover, then the 3rd gear piston but now It is clearly the huge "space shuttle" Oring between the differential and the auto trans unit, not the weep hole between the two seals.
It leaks most while parked and cools off.
The nuts are tight holding the two units together.
The unit works fine, I've a trip coming up and want to postpone a "proper" reseal and rebuild of the unit until Winter.
I'm thinking of some sort of external sealant for 5,000 miles.
Yeah..... I know........ It isn't the right thing to do, but I don't want to soil friends and families driveways on my trip.
I rarely take stop gap measures but for this leak it may be just the ticket.

Put a diaper on it. Friend of mine had a buggy leaked so bad he wire tied a catch basin under the motor- "No harm no foul" he used to say. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.

Catch basin, small pump, filter, and you can send it back into the trans
