|
|
I have one long curtain for my 69 camper that I am thinking about cutting. I want to make a full set for my bus, but the
only way I could do that would be to cut the long one into smaller sections and have them sewed to fit other windows.
Any suggestions?

You do realize that long curtain covers the windshield and driver and passenger windows don't you? Not to mention how valuable they are?? Don't cut that thing up. If you don't need it, sell it to someone who does. _________________ First Trip in the RustyBus:

Yes, I agree with Vdubtech - take a look at Busdaddy's signature: He wants them.

Dont cut those curtains as they're probably original. You can get very inexpensive curtains that fit bus windows quite well by searching on amazon for "valances". These are small curtains made for the upper part of house windows. Turns out they're very close to what you need for the bus. |

Yeah I know what the long one is for but I am missing curtains in both drivers side rear windows. If someone wanted
to trade those windows for this long one I would probably do it. I don't want to cut it but I needs the material. _________________ 64 Kombi

i say cut it up. the front pieces are the "easiest" to find, since they are seldom used and are usually clean material, and are almost always the only curtain that is not totally trashed on a bus. just make sure the material is the same height as the windows you want to use it for. i've cut up many bay fronts to make other curtains, even ones on my '67 Westfalia, and i don't feel one ounce of remorse or guilt about doing it. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

I think a 69 uses the shorter front curtain, like the one close to the middle right of your pic with the snaps. long ones seem to be the most common as they are usually stored out of the light and weather. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do, if it's plaid curtains you're after and the long one will make what you need do it.
If you decide to go a different route PM me, those may almost be enough to complete my set. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Why hack it up?
Ever try a "fabric store"? They got a LOT of material just like that.
It is only original ONCE. _________________ Sent from a white van down the street. |

You must hang out at different fabric stores than the ones I've looked in. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I will keep looking to see if anybody wants to trade before I cut but that's the way it's looking
right now. Hey going to Farmington this weekend? Come check out my bus and the cut up curtains _________________ 64 Kombi

JoAnn fabrics had a lot of similar plaid stuff last time I looked.
Also Hancock Fabrics has a good selection.
You will not find an exact match, but there are a lot of very close options.
I found a very close match to my green plaid at JoAnn once.
So there. _________________ Sent from a white van down the street. |

Are those the one's with the smaller check patern? I have spares of those. I just won a big rap-around curtain with some damage off e-bay today for 50 bucks now I have enuff to make a set of curtain's I need for a set for my 71. with some of the westys I pulled home I have found 4 of those big curtain's 3 that are mess up enuff to make into what I need. I was going to put up the one's I have with the small check patern I don't know but thay must have been for a 68 maybe a 69. Edit: I just pulled these small check one's out I haven't looked at them for sometime and thay must be homemade but someone did a great job in doing it right down to the funny way the sliders are put in the frontside and the sliding door curtain's. I got these off the Samba a few years ago and I couldn't tell from the photos thay were diffrent so I will put them back up for cheep thay are almost all there but not windshild curtain but the front side's are there and thay will be posted as homemade. _________________ where its cold and snowy
