do i have to take the damn shift rod Out to put the bushing on

I must be stooopid or ???
i cant get the damn thing on

You have to slide the shift rod most of the way out of the tunnel.
Remove the disc in the front apron and the front tunnel plate on the pan.
Disconnect the shift rod coupler and shifter plate.
Slide the rod forward until the end is in the shifter hole in the cockpit.
Replace the bushing on the shifter plate (don't forget the wire clip), slide the rod back and reassemble.

when i have more time


..........Just got back in from doing it Half in the dark
BUT
i slid it out
put the ring on and in the mount
and pushed from the front
Used the handle of a 26oz hammer(long)
to push it in the rest of the way


Now theres No Slop in the shifter
Awesome! Very Happy

I thought I would share with you what I found when I replaced mine this weekend: -

Apparently one of the previous owner or their mechanics thought that there was a different way to quiet the rattling coming from the shifter....

I dug out over half a tub full of grease and a shop rag from the tunnel that I can only guess was put there in hopes of stopping the noise - it did not by the way!!!!

I wonder how long that poor SOAB sat there with a grease gun pumping the tunnel full of grease Laughing Laughing
