Can an okrasa engine with stefi.g idf manifolds be installed with both manifolds on the engine? Or does the 1/2 side have to be removed and the 3/4 side can stay on? I’m in the process of assembling my okrasa engine and I would like to find out if I can install the generator and fan.

Measure the width of your engine compartment (make sure to add for the rubber seals on each side).

Measure the engine width from outer edge of one manifold to the outer edge of the other.

Compare the two widths. This should give you an idea.

Apples to oranges but my SG Zenith manifolds installed on a 69 x 80 WW kitted motor cleared a stock 57 beetle engine bay nicely.

You are going to want to remove both manifolds and carbs for engine install. It's the easiest way unless you have a lift and some other fancy equipment to really tilt the engine easily as it goes in...

If you don't pull the carbs and manifolds it will suck to install the engine the normal home garage way

I have the Speedwell IDF manifolds, so my experience is based on that. Perhaps Stefi's are narrower, but if they are it's hard to imagine it's a significant amount - my carbs seem to sit farily close to the shroud.

I'll second for removing both to install. Thanks to the dreaded 3rd manifold bolt under the shroud, if you have to remove the shroud to dig that far into your engine to remove one, you may as well remove them both.

In my case I'm not certain I could have safely tilted the engine enough with the manifolds on to shoehorn it in all together without the heads causing a problem as the engine were shifted to get the lower manifold to clear, if you can envision that.

It very well could be impossible without scratching or denting something.

you also should keep your cylinder tins loose too. Its a bit of a struggle to get it all together. Patience is the key.

I can't imagine it's possible with both carbs on, maybe one, but for what gain? I think tipping then engine to try to get one side up and in, you risk dropping it or bending something.

If anyone was wondering. I ended up leaving 3/4 manifold without carb and the shroud on and 1/2 manifold off. I also left the generator and fan out. this allowed me to install the 3rd manifold nut on 1/2 side. I had to tilt the engine a little bit to clear the 3/4 manifold that was on.

With a dual carbureted 1600 'big block' (as my friend Burly calls them) it's accepted practice to set everything up on the engine stand, linkage, fuel lines, air cleaners twaeked and finished on the engine stand where you have easy access. Then remove the manifolds with carbs attached, and linkage, install the engine, re-bolt up everything after the engine is in the car.

With the SG manifold set up it was easy enough to fit with just the carbs removed.
Pictures show the clearance or lack of, just required a bit of juggling.
