I think the one I posted yesterday is actually The Continental, An Elegant New Pleasure Craft from Viking Industries. Or is that the same thing as a Mark III? |
Not the same, according to a Google search. Richard & Doris Julson started Viking Industries in South Dakota. Their factory burned to the ground (along with vans inside) back in '88. Ten years later, they were still fighting the insurance company! |
The look the same because they all used the same parts for the most part.
Here's a good source for whomever wanted a conversion pimp van:

Wondering if anyone knows if this seat http://www.discountvantruck.com/vanjumpseat/vancenterseat.htm will work as second row seat in a 2000 Eurovan GLS? |

...and another! Only 77k miles...This one is damn near mint.
And, it's a '94!
I can't imagine the Louisiana humidity has done that velour any favors, though.

Not surprisingly, retrofitted with the more desirable '84 steering wheel, dash,
center speaker, clock, bumpers, mirrors, windshield squirters & headlites/grille...

Another Mark III (or Continental) Vanagon! This one has seen slightly better days and is being parted out in the classifieds.
A different take on the swivel seat:
Plenty of usable velour for the right buyer:

Here's my second Bus "Blue" or "Big Blue" 1984 Vanagon viking luxury coach camper conversion 123k original miles the exact one that is on the back page of that brochure. I've been trying to research the company for a while and seen nothing. Got pretty sad when I found out the company burned down from a post on another thread. I got it last February in Indiana from a guy who owned it for 12 years in California.
Also seeing some other posts it sucks to see the other two chairs taken out would have been pretty cool if left!

From the video it is really neat how the rear seat flips over to the bed. Looks like it could easily be made like the westy lounge chair mod.
I used to remember always seeing the Mark III conversion vans and think how cool they were. |

I'd like to find a straight, well-preserved Syncro tin top and give it a full Continental conversion with all the stripes, velour, wood, and associated accoutrement.
Offroading for the discerning gentleman. |
Did I say that?
I do love the stripes. Is that an A/C tunnel along the driver's side? If so, that's a great idea. That could be a workable solution for a high top van.
I once had a 1982 Olds 98 Regency with the velour interior and the velour was grabby. It made my pants ride up my butt and would untuck my shirt, if I was so bedecked. I couldn't get comfortable unless I put on the cruise control and stretched my legs out onto the passenger side of the front bench. _________________ Joe T.

This reminds me of my Dads Ford Econoline van from the early 80s. He built his own conversion but it was just as plush, velour, wood paneling and sweet carpet.
This old thread was a pretty good read and The first I have seen of this conversion. _________________ Sean

My first near-miss Vanagon was a Mark III.
It was 2001 and I knew nothing about Vanagons, but wanted one.
I found a Vanagon on Craigslist in Oklahoma City, and the owner answered positively to some of my questions.
I bought a cheap ($100) one-way ticket from Austin to OKC and took a taxi to the neighborhood where this van was parked, with about $1000 in my pocket.
I got out of the taxi and my eyes fell upon the van--a blue tintop with the usual silver horizontal stripes. It didn't look good. Then I saw the interior--the blue plush velour, the water damaged wood accents, the ceiling spotlights. Just crappy.
It didn't look like the Teutonic dream I had for a VW Westfalia van--I just knew it wasn't right.
I told the seller I had changed my mind. He became belligerent. I worried for the pile of cash in my pocket.
I backed away, rapped my hand on the taxi trunk, and hopped back in.
Straight back to the airport, one way ticket back to Austin.
Only when I finally bought a van in 2013 did I fully understand the bullet I dodged that day.
