You might have read this in the split bus forum a few months back..
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=385159
Sometimes I'm just not sure how I get so lucky.
This story goes like this. The 54' sunroof (you might know the one from another thread), I bought from a man in Edmonton, who bought it from an older man near Peace River Alberta. I bugged him to sell it to me for years until he finally gave in a few years back, and the rest is history.
About two weeks ago I get an email from him asking if I'm interested in his 54' Panel. All he really tells me is that it is in much better shape than the Kombi (I think to myself; how could it really be worse...) and it's a very reasonable price. Like any real enthusiast, I tell him I'll buy it.
In the next phone call he tells me it actually came from about 2 miles away from where the Kombi was found, and he said they were close in production numbers. Interesting. So I drive up to Edmonton on the weekend and haul the bus home.
Ok, the rare part. both canadian delivered Barndoors.
Kombi Vin number 20-086593
Panel Vin number 20-086635
42 vin numbers apart. With VW building 40,199 vehicles in 54' or about 110/day. It is very likely these two were built on the same day just like the single and double cab. That is pretty crazy.
And yes, Tonny, add it to the registry. _________________ C-1 |

Finally some pics...I've been waiting 3 days and the anticipation was starting to get to me. It does look A LOT better than the Kombi was to start with. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

If this is what happens, I am thinking of having one implanted myself. _________________ Looking for these items for my June '53 kombi:

But should it be pointed up, down, or sideways? I'm just thinking it's a procedure you'll want to get right the first time! _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

It should be pointed up, to catch the good luck, but the gap needs to be correct to allow for normal biological functions. |

They point up, so the luck doesn't fall out.
I did actually buy a 58' deluxe bus (yours, Anthony) a few years back that did have 3 nice horseshoes in it. I've got one nailed to my garage wall.
Keep in mind I do live in "cowboy country". I might be about the farthest thing from a cowboy possible. _________________ C-1 |
