Please give me some advice here.
old bearing that had rubber ring where red mark indicates. the ring came off and the bearing inside moves up and down.
New one from LUK kit doesn't have the same space for the ring. And the bearing inside DOESN'T move up and down. Q1) Do I still need a rubber or felt ring in there?
I did not take a good look at the throwout bearing when it came off and I am making sure if the new one is going in correctly. metal clip is going in towards tranny.
The fork is hooked to the metal clips
Q2) Is this correct?
Q3) Do I see a fork bushing here? where is it supposed to be?
Q4) Should I put some more grease on the throwout bearing than how it appears in photo? thats just how it is out of bag
Thanks for your support. _________________ 90 westy 2wd w/ TBD |

Thanks Ben
Should I stuff some more grease in the throwout bearing?
Or Does it already have enuf grease inside?
regular wheel bearing grease would work fine? _________________ 90 westy 2wd w/ TBD |

Your original throwout bearing was one for a VW Vanagon Diesel. Your replacement is the standard one for the gas engine. The Diesel bearing will probably outlast the Plain Jane gas bearing. If your go with the Plain Jane variety you will need a felt and felt retainer. |

Failure is all to common with the gas bearing, it is hard to find a tranny input shaft that hasn't been damaged by bearing failure. I lack much experience with the Diesel bearing, but am moving all my rigs over to it in hopes of eliminating a potential weak spot. PM me in ten years and I will let you know how my experiment is working. |
