I don't know anything about the Bostig leak, but Great Stuff sealant is exactly as the name implies. Unfortunately, I always seem to use one squeeze out of a tube before it expires. It's somewhat spendy, but so are unnecessary oil changes.

With the Bostig conversion, a notorious piece is the high capacity oil pan leak. Is there a hilomar sealant that would be appropriate?
I have tried red rtv and permatex aviation sealant, which is recommended by lots of bostig people. Both leaked. _________________ Love your van.. Keep it Safe! Check out www.thevantracker.com!

Well done - it makes that 46mm nut really easy doesn't it.
The main disadvantage I spotted with the cheap torque multipliers, aside from build quality, is that they don't tell you what torque ratio you're getting, although you could probably work it out by comparing input to output rotations. _________________ 1988 LHD T25 1.6TD Westfalia Club Joker syncro |

Yep, I got that too. Plus 2 pieces of 4' pipe for extended leverage that fit inside each other for easier storage to fit over the end of the breaker bar and the torque wrench I use to put the nut back on.
I know for a fact from experience that a Torque Multiplier is faster and easier then using that setup. I can also use a smaller torque wrench. When you're by yourself with only two hands it is easier.
One little trick if you have questionable quality 46mm socket it is a good idea to put a hose clamp around the end that fits over the nut to keep it from cracking. Works on all cheap socket sets you buy at the flea markets! |
Why waste a hose clamp when you can steal a zip tie from a wheel chair bound person? They can’t chase you , either. _________________ .ssS! |

l considered similar, but ended up with a milwaukee 1/2'' impact.
similar cost, less effort on my part
i fancy the 3/4'' milwaukee impact, also.

I just spent some bucks on a torque multiplier to get the rear axle nut off and back on again a bit easier.

After years of hacking away with cheap syringes, etc. I bought the first MityVac mentioned above and appreciate the it was worth spending $25 on.
It looks like amazon sells the HF pump under different brands for a few bucks more...

I get it, but the HF tool is a transfer pump. Pulls fluid out of the supply vessel on the upstroke and sends it to the receiving vessel on the downstroke without having to move the hoses around. here's a useful tool i cobbled up... an impact screwdriver/torx/etc. using the Holy Grail of impact hammers, the Snap On PH3050, i welded a blank Parker .401 impact shank to an old 3/8" extension with a hole thru it. attach any tool to the drive part. this allows one to hammer away on a #$%@ screw while applying only slight torque with the crossbar. after beating the beejeezus out of them, the screws seem to always yield.
