Nah, no water really gets up there but I have though about putting a shield over it. Heck, that motor's gonna be drinking water soon enough anyway- water injection here I come! _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

I actually thought about using some of that paint that sticks really well to plastic, but I couldn't find krome. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

if u could have that mandrel bent at a cheap mufflershop
it would be cool...
funny.. i have experiences on honda engines
and for some reason they also have a cold air intake and like the other closed thread, everyone insists the colder air helps..
not knowing.. the length of the intake tract actually creates a hump in the 3k rpm range (on hondas not our vws)
on turbo's i doubt the length would do anyting.. but that routing certainly would have better air source vs inside the tray/cabin
i call it ambient air intake LOL |

Yeah, ambiant would be more accurate but it doesn't really sound as cool. Once fall rolls around, then it'll be a true cold air intake. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

Nah, I'm a cheap ass. Aluminum costs money. I do have some steel bends, but they are resreved for an exhaust system I'm building. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

Da Chrome ones ar available at pepboys, kragen and most flaps now adays. The intake with the all the velocity holes is actually a mock up kit. You used to be able to make the intake with the mockup and send it in. They would make you one out of aluminum. I'm not sure if they do that any more. I've had good results out of those shiny plastic ones. I do question some of their plastic parts as there should be no corners and edges inside a bend.

Good luck trying to navigate, try hitting catalog, then modular intake parts |

think that will be to restrictive?
i only ask because a friend of mine had a turboed ghia... that ran 10 sec. 1/4's and they went through several air cleaner's- and collapsed them all until they tried a filter for a cummins turbo diesel... about 8" in diameter and 1.5' tall it seemed...
of course it was a draw through with a 4 barrel carb and around 20-22 psi of boost... i forget the engine size off the top of my head...
it was called the gearloose ghia.. made it into Hot vw's...
i really like your project... makes it look easy but also realistic. 8^) |

You have exceeded the cfm of the filter if you are collapsing them. A large cone filter is good up to around 800 cfm. |

I think you should wrap it in exhaust wrap, you can tell people it's a new technology to lower exhaust temps by lowering intake temps at the source.
Still think it needs a Type R sticker. |

This thread would be lots better if everyone could see the pictures of this wonder intake system |

What about having an STF login but the Department of Defense not liking people signing on to message boards?
For some reason Volksrods and Samba are ok, but I can't login to STF, Challengertalk, or a few other forums I normally troll..
Also apparently Photobucket poses a security risk because they block it too.. _________________ -pariah (just a novice from "that other VW site")
