Well, what else will you be adding? Btw- used washers today and I must say having six jets over the original two is very nice indeed. _________________ '85 Westy |

Projekt Zwo fog light guards, will post pics too, I was tempted to buy 16" wheel arches but that is a lot of greens to spend on a bunch of plastic, we'll see for how long I can resist temptation _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

My Westy was built in 9/86 and it has the driver side nozzle at the old place. My tin top was built in 3/87 and the nozzle is already at the new location. The twin jet at the old location should work better than the single jet I would think. |
For the record, I have the same:
'86 Syncro, old outboard position of DS nozzle.
3/87 GL, DS nozzle has been moved to inboard position. _________________ Shop for unique Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

I bought a pair of the 2-way nozzles they sell at this link (plus other stuff), on their way here, will post pics and install |
Hey Mad, where did you get those 3-way washers that you gave me one of?
I installed it on the DS, leaving the original single washer on the passenger side, and have been super happy with the results. _________________ '86 Wolfy Westy Weekender

Hi J,
the 3-way washer were from this Brit guy who sold a bunch here on The Samba (Smart car nozzle?), I sill have them but look a bit too big so I decided to give the 2-way ones from Henning a chance since they are supposed to be Vanagon South Africa parts? _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

Heya SAMBAists.
I frikkin love this forum, almost as much as I love my van. Its so nice to know that I'm not the only one. Here in AK the stock nozzles are not up to the task.
So I just ordered my washer nozzles from Pelican Parts. I'd like to put some check valve/s in too. Have you guys done this? I had the dash off and I dont want to take it back off. Can check valves be fitted through the hole that the nozzle goes in?

I put one (check valve) in the line around the height of the upper grill. But I think the lower the better... more weight of water on the valve, no?

Watch out with adding check valves if you plan to run in the winter months.
Unprotected lines will freeze quickly when below zero, even with antifreeze, in my experiences.
The system is designed to drain back into the tank.
I have had great success running heat tape on the tank & lines, powered off the power mirror circuit as I do a ton of winter Syncro driving. |

Funny you should mention heat tape...I was thinking of running a trace in my sink water line but could only find 120V tape...your running 12 V tho?
Hmmmm. Still, I dont understand how washer fluid would freeze at all, its supposed to be good to wayyyyy below zero... |

RV supply has 12volt tape and yes my lines have frozen with check valves at hiway speeds.
I drive that fast! |

Interesting.
"Stauventil" - backup valve/one way valve - is clearly shown in the German manual for the headlight washers.

Yeap and I have seen them heated on TriStars.
Only when equipt with ABS, go figure.
The headlamp washers are not plumbed into the windshield lines, they just share the same reservoir.
The headlamp washer lines are a larger diameter tubing too. |

It also says only on the caravelle carat. It isn't on the trucks or lower end models? |

believe it or not my goodies are stuck at customs, they were sent to me in February from Spain. It used to be fast shipping but the last two times I ordered from Europe it has taken way more time than usual to get here, maybe Christmas backup...
I will post pics as soon as I get the stuff _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

Correct.
The headlight setup is different on the later models than pictured and the washers are located in different locations on the trucks / Syncros.
Many options we did not get here in the US were designed for the Syncro to be used in commerical / agricultural enviornments in Scandinavia.
A perfect example of this would be the very limited production Syncro transmission nos cone with a cable actuated PTO.
I am just trying to share my experience with adding a check valve to the stock Vanagon windshield washer nozzle system.
It didn't work for me until the lines were protected from windchill during winter hiway driving.
Possibly the antifreeze/cleaner was cheap, but it gelled and would not pass the nozzles.
When the check valve was removed and the fluid was allowed to drain back to the tank it did not gel.
Having the entire system heated and using RainX winter wiper formula has been amazing.
On a related note, I have a few different wiper arms here in the shop that have the washer nozzles incorporated into them. The wiper blades are heated as well. This project is in the works, buts is on hold until this coming winter. |

I also got the pelican parts double windshield washer nozzle, and have to say it works so great that I can't imagine wanting a third nozzle. I also saw that the 3 nozzle upgrades take a lot of extra work where the two nozzle for the Porsche fits without any hassle.
Anyway talking about Pelican Parts, when I first contacted them they didn't' want to sell me the part because I told them I was putting it on a VW and not Porsche, but after I responded and shared this linked page they sent me the part...Although i got a funny message, which I imagine they send to all their Porsche customers about a "mighty ship that I sail" has anyone else received that? |
